We reach for the longest shadow

I thought Letters Home had some good stuff on it, but everything after that has been diminishing returns.

Look at the metal and hardcore thread bonding!

My two cents: Out of the big four from the 2000's that really popularized melodic hardcore mixing with screamo (Touche Amore, La Dispute, Pianos Become the Teeth and Defeater) Defeater were just too ambitious for their own good. I think all the musicians were incredible but to create these huge concept albums that didn't allow people to connect with the band was tough. I will always have a lot of respect for Jay Maas and his production though.

Hot take: I would probably rather listen to Defeater than most of the La Dispute discography.

    yeah good okay Prestigious

Out of all of those, Pianos is the only one I revisit, and pretty much only the post screamo stuff

  7. They're also the ones that evolved the least. Not that they necessarily needed to, but there's a reason I revisit their early stuff much more often than their latter. Touche Amore is my favorite out of them but Pianos probably has the album that hits me the hardest (Keep You).

Mostly agree, but I think I’d rather listen to Wildlife and Rooms of the House over any Defeater stuff.

I wouldn’t have guessed that PBTT would be my favorite from “The Wave” after first checking them out when only Old Pride was out, but Keep You is definitely the best album to come out of any of those bands. Most of Touche’s stuff is a close second, basically the whole discog.

I would argue Stage Four is better but Keep You is great.

Yeah I almost singled out Stage Four as their best. New Halloween is one of my favorite songs ever.

out of all 4 of those bands, Stage Four (and maybe like half of another Touche record) is all that's ever grabbed me

That Grove Street album is hard AF - Power Trip thrash with a dash of hardcore thrown on top

Actually, more than anything that Grove Street album reminds me of Iron Reagan, haha

Female-fronted djenty band from Hanoi, Vietnam - pretty decent stuff (especially if you dig Spiritbox)

Theyre obviously taking influence from lots of (older) stuff but it sounds a lot like Dead Heat to me. But it's great regardless.

My two cents on the Grove Street album: I hear a lot of Ekulu. But obviously the crossover is front and center.
