@phaynes12 I get it but I’m trying to back off of always trusting that old school analysis. Everyone here is tired of me pounding the table about pocket passing and west coast style reads, believe me I love the QBs who can do the mentally-hardest stuff the most - I personally had Stroud above Bryce and AR for that reason.

but a lot of teams have made atypical mobile QBs work lately and have been able to teach them to play that way when they can’t run. So who am I to dismiss a Bryce Young without at least looking deeper into his skillset? He did at least show me he could make tougher anticipation decisions than Fields at Ohio State provided he has just enough time to create space in the pocket.

My goal lately has been to try to be more specific about what makes a Hurts or Lamar successful as early as year 2 vs other smaller mobile QBs having a tougher path to success (Fields, Geno, etc).

*Kyler Murray is a weird case, he does all the shit that most other QBs fail with, his performance on Arizona is the only time I’ve seen an erratic mobile QB with virtually zero pocket presence in an air raid offense have that much NFL success, since maybe Fran Tarkenton lol*

like i was saying earlier, im sure cj wouldn't look like how he does now because of how god awful this offense is and yeah Jalen and Lamar have offenses with way more going on i think there's a pretty big difference between all those mobile QBs, even kyler at the same height, who can lower their shoulder and take a hit if they need to because they are stocky/have a wide frame and bryce who looks petrified every time pressure is applied. which, given the state of the offensive line, is virtually every play.

 

it's easy to say "we should have kept cmc/moore/etc." but the problems go back prior to this summer. the team has been so aimless post Cam and made boneheaded decision after boneheaded decision going back to the darnold and baker deals, the latter of who looks legitimate again the second he got out of charlotte, that they forced themselves into a corner where they basically were handcuffed to making stupid decisions to rectify their previous stupid decisions. ugh. i need to take a walk and hang with the baby and stop thinking about this stupid team.

DJ Moore was a demand. They couldn't have traded to 1 without giving him up. And Houston wasn't trading down so that leaves Arizona and drafting AR

The crazy part is, the year we hired Rhule, we kinda started the rebuild perfectly. Signed Teddy to a deal we could get out of after two seasons. It was a great bridge deal. He actually played well. We hired a young up and coming OC (probably hired him too early tbh). And that season was the best our offense has looked since.

It was all set up to draft someone the following draft, Fields. He would’ve been able to sit behind Teddy if needed until he was ready. And we could patiently build the OL and defense (in this scenario we still have DJ and CMC). And our young OC would continue to grow in his role.

But instead we cut Teddy. Traded for Darnold. He sucked. Got Joe Brady fired. And the rest has just been one mess after another.

 

Not sure I only watch good shows

 

why do you want josh to have to do more work for only modestly more money

 

There's actually a sweet spot in management where you delegate most of the work but also don't have ridiculous responsibility and pressure from up top. Just gotta find it.

 

That’s all fair. The washed Cam / Darnold / Baker saga was very mismanaged and this does feel like they made a desperate move for a savior in a draft class with no real “saviors” (as much as I love CJ, Texans coaching staff is also doing something right with a roster that ain’t that good, and they seem set up to be on the incline rather than still backpedaling from the Watson saga)

 

that’s kinda where I am just wish I made a little bit more.

 

Trading CMC to another NFC team was probably not necessary though

the only pick they used to move up from that trade was #61, which could’ve been compensated for another way

 

Bryce young running an RPO misdirection offense with CMC is a WAY different story than what he’s doing right now in a second rate drop-back-and-throw-quick offense that is only really built to coast through a bad season with Baker Mayfield

 

We traded DJ to Bears to help fix their problem and created the same exact problem for our own team.
