Another morning, another bad faith argument lol. The reception perception Tweet proves my point, the tweet Dave posted in response also proves my point, but I’m still the asshole for pointing it out

 

I also doubt they're too worried about his impact in the locker room. They seem pretty together so if he's causing trouble they'll just cut him.

I really did want to turn on the game and see Justin Fields looking off defenders and making pre-planned throws against good coverage. I was ready to be wrong. I would be STOKED if I saw Fields take it to the next level.

But what I honestly got was “oh, this is just wildly bad defense that is allowing one excellent route running receiver to have more success with go routes and comebacks than anyone else in the last 6 years”

 

Sigh. No one called you an asshole. Football takes don't need to be taken so personally. You have an argument, a couple of people disagree with you. That's it. Disagreeing with you isn't inherently bad faith.

I just dont understand this argument tbh. Again, no one here has claimed Fields is suddenly great. He had a nice 2 games, against maybe bad coverages. Thats it. That is better than the first 3 weeks. Thats all anyone said.

 

Not necessarily your disagreement, but the whole thread being collectively like “come on Randall” as if what I’m saying isn’t 1) backed up by objective metrics 2) valid, relevant discussion of the game that happened last night. I’m not just being a dick haha I’m recapping what I saw and the conclusions I drew from the game

 

Justin Fields has twice as many TDs in the last two games as some qbs have for the year.

 

He literally did do that too though.

 

It didn’t start with someone saying that and me responding though. It started with me posting a tweet about how weird that game was defensively and how it confirmed my during-the-game hunch about the coverages he was facing. I simply disagreed with Dave that that information credited Justin Fields specifically

 

its a "both things can be true" argument though. justin fields had 2 very good games by his standards. he also played objectively poor defenses. the issue is that you're arguing so much to only support your point when the basis of what started the debate is also objectively correct. thats all.

 

not that I saw. He made tough throws and executed, I’ll always give that credit, but in terms of reading the defense Washington was on rookie mode.

And I simply disagreed with you that it means Fields should receive zero credit for his performance. That's it. That's the argument. Super bad faith of me.

 

…so this game of inflated stats doesn’t really change my opinion of Justin Fields cause my primary concern is him reading defenses, not making downfield throws to a guy that’s clearly open. I already know he’s one of the best young QBs at doing the latter. But the latter is meaningless in a lot of games if you can’t do the former.

Top 5 worst quarterbacks in the league:
1. Zach Wilson
2. Daniel Jones
3. Mac Jones
4. Jimmy Garoppolo
5. Russell Wilson
5a. Justin Fields (only 5A because he's young and Wilson is old - last nights 4 TD performance was not nearly as impressive as the stats indicate).

Some QB's on this list have shown improvement recently, but this is still the worst bunch in the league by far, and I wouldn't want any of them as my teams starting QB (And unfortunately I'm a Pats fans stuck with Mac, and no - Zappe isn't the answer either). I also really dislike Mac as he's dirty, and has done enough that it's a definite habit and character flaw at this point. It'd be one thing to root for him and give him a chance if he was likeable, but he's not.
