Smoking looks cool as hell and I unfortunately love the smell of cigarette smoke, but I’m glad I don’t do it considering it killed one of my grandparents and has seriously fucked with the health of many more family members.

  7. Black bears are cool as shit, I love living where they're just around. The fact that it's more unusual if you go a summer without having bears run through your yard and eat from your birdfeeder or garbage can is probably a failure in ecological policy but it makes for great nature sighting and gave me multiple memories I will always treasure where my tiny 20 pound dog tried to fight black bears.

  8. That just reminded me, a 4 or 5 years ago there was a big controversy in my town because there was a guy going door to door trying to convince people to let him bait their yards to attract bears for tourism. My understanding is he was eventually, uh, asked not to continue doing that by the board of selectmen or whatever.

As someone who lives hiking/outdoors, being in bear country was equal parts thrilling and scary. Black bears as most pointed out don't scare me too much, outside of accidentally ending up between a momma and her cub. Back in 2019 right before the pandemic really hit hard, a black bear had made its way down into the woods right outside the city and then into the city itself and it was a huge deal around here lol. Delabear lives on forever in our hearts

That 2nd video contains footage from a cell phone of a guy inside the house with the red porch/deck you see the bear climb on in the first video haha.

I have tons of great pictures of black bears/cubs we saw on our road trip. We (luckily?) never saw any Grizzlies up close. At one point in the Tetons we saw a pair of older grizzly cubs wrestling around far off one of the main roads, and I unfortunately didn't have VR enabled on my camera lens so the pics came out all blurry.

Definitely will always have bear mace on me when out in Grizzly territory. That story from Banff is terrifying, sounds like maybe the bear was like going senile or something, wild that it just took an entire can of bear mace to the face and kept coming, and then attacked the rescuers when they got there.

But I have a much bigger fear of mountain lions. I'd feel much better about my chances of living accidentally encountering a grizzly bear than a mountain lion, because if I'm encountering a mountain lion, that means it's probably been stalking me and is planning to eat me lol

*borat voice* my wife and I talk about it all the time how funny it is to see what boomers have become when they grew up during either the hippie era or hair metal/leather pants era. Talk about the most hypocritical generation ever

We saw a bear on a hike last September in Steamboat. Such a cute fuzzy guy/girl that was picking berries off a tree

Him and his wife have been active in trying to block a housing development in their neighborhood. They've cited privacy concerns but it's all typical NIMBY bullshit.

Edit: here's an article for context: Steph and Ayesha Curry oppose upzoning of Atherton property near their home

It's not even low-income housing, it's multi-family townhomes that will still be unaffordable to most, but the housing supply in CA is so far behind that every little bit is going to help.
