reading about what happened with Trick/Dom/Melo last night, and it sounds so good. might try and enter NXT into the rotation for a bit

Also, why do they care so much if it does better than NXT? Doesn’t smackdown and raw blow it out the water? And live event sales? And most other metrics?

If WWE can beat Dynamite on the same night, they're probably of the belief that it might hurt their future TV deal. And maybe they can pitch NXT as the "do this instead of AEW" sort of show.

AEW's approach, generally, seems to be a "hype when you beat WWE...but be happy both exist"...and WWE's approach, as always, is to try and destroy any competition.

I can't really wrap my head around Edge saying "I’ve never wrestled at Tokyo Dome. How about a match against Kazuchika Okada? That would be pretty cool. I’m pretty excited by that."

WWE also probably wants to package NXT with Raw if they’re moving to a new network so might as well beef up the ratings to make that easier.

This is genuinely funny, btw. A near perfect troll of Tony

Well, and tell any new purchase that they can run it on Wednesdays if they want and they'll routinely send RAW stars down to prop it up, etc.

Mostly they just dont want NXT ratings to drop 100-150k and show that there's a bunch of crossover fans

would like to state for the record that i will only be calling Edge "Edge" because there are multiple Adams and Copeland is twice as many letters and i am economical

Love that Giancarlo still gets to make so much cool shit, but it sucks that the Vladimir doc will never come out.

Loading Cody, Heyman, Auska, Becky and John Cena into the barrel is doing far more than "protecting their established viewbase". They are clearly looking not just to keep their current viewer count but ensure they beat Dynamite

i mean yeah of course, it goes without saying. yet it's not like NXT announced a Wednesday night special. AEW is in a spot where preemptions will happen, are WWE supposed to just book a regular show when theyre counter programmed? Tony is advertising Edge's first match and calling it Title Tuesday. i would imagine in a bid to steal viewers from NXT

which is to come back to this is just the most basic wrestling business possible

also people are way overblowing how "loaded" that show is. Cena, Cody, and Heyman are in nonwrestling roles and they are already each to be on TV that week.

I’m sure Tony’s booking of Title Tuesday and Edge’s first match is more to not lose viewers since AEW isn’t on their regular night. I don’t think it’s motivated to take viewers specifically away from NXT. Both are going to be facing stiff competition from the MLB so it makes sense to load the lineups.

for sure, both things are true in both cases. both companies have done it every single chance they've gotten. Becky popped 850k last month alone without the rest when unopposed. it's just odd to me that this is the shot heard round the world

AEW ran gimmicks based on winning the ratings against NXT when they were on the same night. They are absolutely trying to take viewers away from NXT. But that’s kinda the point. They're both wrestling shows that are going to be on at the same time. They have the same goals

Do we really think Edge is gonna put up big numbers though? I know the video did crazy views. But I’m a little skeptical for the long term

I don’t think he will do big numbers, but it’ll help them a bit. It looks like live event tickets have picked up a little since his debut.
