An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

it's probably better on the whole but I do think Hill House is scarier. nostalgia certainly is a factor in there

Linklater in MM is... one of the best performances I've ever seen. makes up for them fucking his character over in Legion

Excited to hear Rust's take on Bram Stoker's Dracula. What a bat (pun intended) shit movie.

Saw X being the best reviewed film in the series was definitely not on my bingo card. How many film franchises have a good 10th entry?

  10. I tried to watch it like five years ago and got bored, gotta try it again this weekend so I can listen to the ep

I remember going to see the first Saw, not having a clue what it was about, was just invited to go w/some friends, and holy fuck that ending had the entire theater flipping out. Easily one of my favorite cinema experiences of my life!

Making plans now w/folks to see the new one tomorrow

I might see it tomorrow when it’s a cheap showing. Never been a big fan of the saw films, but the reviews have me curious

  15. I've only seen the first three

Saw the first in theaters and truly can't remember if I've seen any since. Might've also watched 2 before I checked out. Did not like that period of horror at the time and haven't given it a shot since.

  17. The first one is iconic but doesn't hold up nearly as well as the second imo. Everything since has varied between fun garbage and garbage garbage lol

That being said, I'm going tonight!

  18. Honest question as someone who has little interest in ever seeing Terrifier, is it in the same vein as the sort of torture porn that Saw gave rise to? From everything I've heard about it, I don't understand why it has this like cult following and is held in such high regard while that entire era of horror is usually looked down upon. On a semi related note, I guess extremism horror, stuff that's known for being disturbing like Irreversible, Martyrs, and High Tension, just don't sound like a good time to me. I can only handle a certain level of brutality and gore

    I don’t get it

  20. If torture porn bad, why extremism good?

  21. oakhurst

    Trusted Supporter

    Both are bad imo

  22. Terrifier is less torture porn and more ultraviolent camp, but if you don't like gore, I would not recommend it.

Saw is coming back into favor, and with Terrifier, I think it's the changing of the tides (more 80s-style slashers, less A24-style horror) as well as having a new horror icon

  23. Both are bad. But I think extremism is “better” because it’s sooo over the top and ridiculous that it’s just kinda “funny”? If that makes sense.

  24. Is extremism kind of a general term for gore? Because I feel like we're talking about a few different kinds of film here. New French Extremity, torture porn, and... whatever Terrifier is, lol
