Cities should not have to pay for sports arenas. Also, Paycom Arena is only about 20 years old. Why on earth do they need a new one?

 

Bring back the Sonics and just cancel the expansion

 

I don't know much about OKC but it could just be greedy ownership. Philly is going through its own arena debate as the 76ers are trying to build a new arena that they own for no real reason other than they could get the proceeds from concerts and events held there. It's idiotic.

 

From what I understand:

Thunder ownership is contributing like $50 million (roughly 5% of the cost)

City will own the arena

funded by a 1-cent sales tax that’s already in place

1/4th of sales tax spent in city allegedly comes from people that don’t live in the city

I will still vote no (I think it’s a county vote, not a city vote)

 

I’ve heard people say that large musical acts prefer Tulsa’s BOK arena and that they skip OKC due to the arena layout (I think), and I’ve heard local podcast people talk about how Paycom is dogshit compared to like, Sacramento’s arena and other new nba arenas

 

City owning the arena isn’t terrible at least

I’ve also heard (I obviously wasn’t old enough to know) that before the Thunder arrived, no one was ever downtown after like 5 PM. It was just empty offices everywhere.
