In an ideal world where people actually work as a team and pull equal weight, tip share is better. It guarantees that nobody gets shafted because good-tipping people aren’t sitting in their section (for example, sometimes the patio is poppin, other times it’s too hot or it rained or there’s too many bugs). The money is more consistent.

It’s supposed to incentivize collaboration- like, the other day I was slow while the bar was slammed, so I filled in and did backbar stuff like clearing glasses and plates etc. Cause I’m getting paid off that too. Servers and bartenders all fluctuate between too busy to handle another task, and super slow for like an hour… so If everyone works together, there’s always someone available to do the cleaning and re-setting, and tables get served faster. This means better tips and more attention given to the customer as well.

however at my restaurant a good 60% of the employees are selfish and not very good at their jobs and not proactive about cleaning a damn thing etc, so it definitely sucks. I made $300 off like 5 tables last night by myself on the floor, because I’m good at service - it would be nice to not have to share that with people who… don’t do anything to get tipped extra… and don’t go help clean the bar when they’re slammed… and try to pull a fast one to get out of sweeping / mopping / stocking at the end of every shift

 

Tldr tip share is great if the employees “get it.” But restaurants have no standards with who they hire because they refuse to pay an actual wage so they gotta take who they can get. And a lot of places. The employees don’t fuckin “get it”

my only personal point of reference was working at diner that sat maybe 50-60 people and our waitresses shared tips and made like, $4 or $5 an hour hourly

The kid has no confidence like we saw when he was at BYU. Hackett and LaFleur have both done an awful job of maximizing his skillset. He's athletic and he thrives outside of the pocket. We rarely see him on designed rollouts and they refuse to use him as a runner.

They've got nothing to lose with him out there. Call some read options and let him win with his legs - he's capable at times.

I fully expect that he gets booed off the field on Sunday night.
