I mostly loved it. There were a few things that didn't fully work or make sense but I'm happy to just gloss over them because I loved the visuals and action so much.

I really wanted to be blown away by this but still liked it well enough. Some of it did not land or connect with me though. Absolutely a blast to see on the big screen though. Like everyone else has said, the visuals are great.

I mean the visuals were great but I wasn't invested in the plot or characters at all so the emotional stuff did nothing for me.

Seeing this tonight but man, the reviews are all over the place. BBC gave it 5 stars (and they're normally pretty harsh) then it's sitting at a 70% on RT with it seems, either love it or hate it sentiments.

Haven't read any of the actual reviews. I'll dive into them when I've seen it. To be honest though, if it's like an Avatar type of movie where it treads familiar themes and sci-fi tropes, but is visually stunning and engaging, I'll probably love it.

My biggest issues are parents who bring kids to late showings for movies with a young and older audience crossover (there's a reason there's a 10pm showing - gtfo here) and people who use electronic devices on full brightness. I've had kids a few seats over playing on their IPAD / phone the whole time, or bored moms and dads texting on full brightness. It's just bad manners, and if it's ignorance it's even worse when you're that old. I'm being hyperbole myself, but surely you've had a parent, peer, friend at some point tell you that that's not okay yet you still do it anyway so you're just an ass of a human being at that point?

Then again, people still ride their bikes / ride public transportation with boom boxes in the middle of the day blasting vulgar lyrics (or to be mild, any music at all - HEADPHONES EXIST).

I really don't get how so many people don't know how to function in a manner that meets the criteria of basic societal politeness.

I really enjoyed this. Patrick Willems has a video about "Vibes Movies," and I feel like this fits into that category. It was such a rich, detailed world that unfortunately overwhelmed the story we were supposed to be paying attention to. Like, I wanted to hang out with Ken Wantanabe's robot lieutenant more. It got so many of the little things right. Those the kamikaze droids!

But yeah, the dialogue was super clunky. I laughed out loud when Allison Janney yelled "hack everything!" They could have excised nearly all the military characters; they all just spat military cliches anyway. Fortunately John David Washington is charismatic as hell, so I felt like he was still able to elevate some of the poor writing.

Despite that, I did have a great time.

  12. I thought about Patrick's video while watching it last night too.

I had no idea Sturgill was in this so I became the Leo meme when he showed up. I don't think the 8 other people in my showing cared lol.

A lot of people were absolutely cracking up at parts of this movie which was really weird to me.

Pretty much agreed with most of the stuff in this thread, visually insane but nothing much more to it....

The constant attempts to make "they're just code..." a dramatic mic drop was goofy (because it's true)

Idk, I'm a salty fun hater who hates when people laugh at non-funny things in movies but there definitely was humor that made me chuckle, idk if the movie really needed it

there were a few parts but people were legit cracking up like every 5 minutes at stuff that wasn’t funny, they might have been on the weed.

They probably went into the movie with the mentality to do a Theater 3000 thing

i wish JDW would lean into his charisma/sense of humor a bit more and quit doing these dreadfully serious parts

Also feel like the score in this actively held it back. Made big moments feel too small

Couple next to us was talking a lot so my fiancé told them to stop, and then after the movie they apologized to us! Surprising!
