I think that’s an album the lyrics were so bad, even for NFG. Which made it hard to listen to.

When an album opens like that ... you're in trouble.

 

I wonder how its leak effected the pre-order numbers since everyone immediately was like "this fuckin sucks..."

 

Lyrics are bad on that NFG record, but the worst part about it was how clunky so many of the vocal melodies were. Whoever told them to try to cram as many words as possible into a small space should be exiled. So many moments on that album are way too wordy and don’t land at all.

 

"we would make the best team better than the 96 bulls ever were, Jordam, Rodman, and Pippen..." is both kinda clever but feels SO verbose listing the names

 

Relient K already did that cheese better too.

Ok so this is very Canadian. If no one remembers this band I wouldn’t be shocked. But “not by choice” rips. Pretty sure they were like a label put together band in 2002 so be the next sum41/blink-182 band here. Standing all alone is incredible - not by choice

Definitely not put together by a label. They were local to me and I used to know a couple of the guys in that band really well. Saw them probably a dozen times over the years and they definitely grinded it out for a few years before getting noticed

 

Lol never heard of that band. Listened to that song, reminds me of Off By One or something. Not my highest compliment

 

I saw them at blue mountain while I was snowboarding with my family, was insanely cool. (What I said was an assumption).

 

I only said this because they look exactly like a rip off sum-41 lol

 

Also where in Ontario are you from / not by choice lol

 

I’m from just outside of Oshawa, and Not By Choice were from Ajax I believe. The venue they used to play all the time was in Oshawa called The Dungeon. It was a total shithole, but we all loved it. Ironically that same place now a good 20 years is later is just about to reopen as a new 500 cap venue where the dungeon was, and a brand new 1200 cap venue upstairs on the main level

 

I can’t wait to try and identify any “The Cure” inspiration on this album. There’s gotta be atleast one song right? Robert Hoppus needs to bring it!

Relient K are the masters of cheesy lyrics written in a clever way. I'm still waiting for their next record featuring Dave Douglas back behind the kit with backing vocals

I thought the title track was kinda catchy, but the rest was soooooooo paint-by-numbers

 

One of my all time favorites and off my favorite Cure album.
