The original lyrics are “Sorry about my twenties” seemingly acknowledging a lot of the shitty things he’s said. Instead of acknowledging the shitty things he’s still saying he changed the lyrics to “sorry about my thirties”

It's amazing how quickly Matty has kind of ruined their music for me. I'm usually pretty fine with "separating the art from the artist" but there's just always some annoying piece of news about him being ignorant or just an asshole. It's like, on top of having some pretty reprehensible values/double standards, he also feels the need to shove it down the throats of anyone who pays attention. I have tickets to see them in November and I'm starting to really not want to go. It's a shame, their music has had a profound impact on my life.

EDIT: I'd like to add that I am saying this earnestly and not trying to shit on anyone who does keep listening. I've been very active in the 75 threads on the site since the ILIWYS days and I've only really noticed this shit since their last LP came out a year ago.

 

I think I'll stop going in this thread just because I see enough of this kinda stuff on twitter. People's takes on this guy just bum me out.

 

I think he desperately needs to grow up, but we’ve covered the ground in the accountability thread multiple times.

 

I just think it's easy to forget some people are human just because they have a following. Dude makes a few edgy jokes and suddenly he's talked about like hes an ab*ser on the internet. Nobody says anything in the trending blink-182 threads about the horrid shit they've said. I just saw an interview with Tom from like last year where he drops the r word a few times casually and no one says anything about that lol.

edit: not trying to say anyone in this thread says anything specifically like that. that was more about the stuff I see on twitter daily from taylor swift stan accounts lol

 

Yeah I agree for the most part. I think the way he’s treated is half deserving and half weird obsession, quadrupled since he dated Taylor. I think all his problems go away though if he just behaved like a normal 30 something? The edgy online bit is getting old and he just keeps doubling down. Is it enough to turn me off from them? No, but I get why he pisses some people off and I think those feelings are justified.

 

People from multiple bands can suck at the same time. Matty needs to shut the fuck up and be an adult but he thinks it’s so rock n roll to be controversial and a douchebag.

I know plenty of people who are “just people that are human” that don’t say and do the dumb shit that Matty does. Him being a public figure is not giving him the pass some of you think it is. It’s weirder to me the way people in here dig their heels in like the stuff he does is totally normal when he is constantly receiving feedback about why it actually sucks. I’m still a 1975 fan but damn, the dude needs to shut up sometimes

 

He knowingly tries hard to be a rock star aesthete and a comic philosopher for 2023. Sometimes he puts his foot in his mouth, but I've been on this ride for ten years. I know what I'm getting and I feel like I have a sense of where his heart's at. Sometimes I think he sounds like an idiot but he hasn't done anything that makes me conflicted about being a fan of their band.
