The other day my dad was like "You know what song is fun?" and they he played Graffitia and I congratulated him on discovering the one good track on the album lol

  4. You like Green Day but don't like "Sugar Youth"? That doesn't compute with me.

Based on your posts, I’m not convinced you like Green Day haha

  6. I liked Green Day from Dookie to American Idiot, and then I liked them again with FOAM.

Only thing more crazy than people who say that there’s a marked difference in sound and approach between Warning and American Idiot are the maniacs who say that FOAM isn’t a classic, top tier Green Day record. Get your ears checked!!!

I still stand by my opinion on FOAM, but I'd be lying if I said the company I'm sharing that with didn't make me nervous.

That’s like half of their albums, and I’m counting the trilogy as one album. So that’s 5 you don’t like. So, I’m still not convinced haha

But seriously, that’s all fine. Like the albums you like. I just find the exaggerated rock star partying nonsense lyrics on FOAM to be so boring and bad. I just have zero interest in them. Where as lyrics from Insomniac are also very focused on drugs, yet are super relatable to me, who has never done drugs like that. It focuses on how BJ is thinking and feeling and comes across as coming from an introspective place. I think it speaks to something real and authentic. FOAM feels like a facade. And not an entertaining one.

I went to Genius lyrics and read over some lyrics for FOAM and read stuff the band said about songs and rediscovered this. It’s so dumb. It’s just a massive eye roll of a statement. It really makes it standout as not good, IMO.

    this record is The New!
soul, Motown, glam and manic anthemic. Punks, freaks and punishers!
The Dirty messy . The Stink. ,
The lyrics are like a party and lifestyle of not giving a fuck. The life AND death of the party. Not political. Surviving in chaos. The real shit.
Me mike and Tre of the Green Day cut through the bullshit. That’s how it’s always been for us. Everything else is fake. Frauds I tell ya!!
Rock has lost its balls. We’re gonna teabag all these mother fuckers. The baddest rock band on the planet that gives a shit.
“Glorious” or “glorious anarchy” seems to be the word that keeps coming up that reflects
    Dancing
    Tribalism
    Anxiety
    Joy
    Violence
    Drugs
    Booze
    Dangerous songs for dangerous kids!

    Our motto??
“Nothing says fuck you like a unicorn”

    Love And kisses
    Billie

Just a major “yikes” moment I’d forgotten about.

Perhaps the wrong choice of words. It was more that I really like what Butch Walker did with the sound of the band, the engineering work etc, and I'd love Butch to do another album, but I don't think FOAM's sound is replicable and I'm not sure the band are interested in revisiting it.

I'm giving it another listen now just for you though.

I liked FOAM fine, only like 2 clunkers on it but I can see how it rattled people. It's definitely better than California, Neighborhoods and Nine by comparison.

For the record, do you still like Neighborhoods or..?

I do! More for the idea of it than the actual listening experience. It was definitely the sound of 3 people trying to make things work yet still being pulled in different directions life, dealing with trauma while also dealing with the unrealistic expectations of a fanbase excited to have them back. At the time, everyone was hoping they'd get their goofy, summer-y sounding Blink 182 but instead got a darker, less accessible continuation of the self-titled. That being said, I'm still more apt to jam FOAM due to the rush of those songs so I only put it slightly above Neighborhoods. California was a brand course-correct for a world tour and Nine has some interesting ideas that I think are at odds with modern production flairs.

Just listened to FOAM, probably won't be revisiting it again anytime soon (or anytime ever really). It probably should have been a Foxboro Hot Tubs album.

Yes the promo for it was extremely embarrassing. I think that tainted a lot of people’s perceptions on the album itself, which is actually good!

I believe it but it's also fun getting a rise out of the Blink fanboys that are the genesis of this site.

Some of FOAM is pretty damn good and fun musically, I just think Billie is at a low point lyrically and some of the choruses fall flat

I actually feel like FOAM is a fuck you to the people who ignore The Network and Foxboro Hot Tubs since they're not Green Day and can pretend they don't exist.
