That song is not good. The rest is good. It’s still a great album. But Degenerate should have been cut.

  2. Are you looking for a different response from me or an argument or something? Like, not sure what you want here. Haha, like ... I love that album. Warts and all.

I don’t know. I just added that beyond being not good, it should have been cut. Which isn’t really asking for anything ultimately. I just wanted to add on a point to my opinion. That’s the end of it to me haha

I love Degenerate’s melodies and how fast it is. A lyric like “Had my nuts attacked by rats” deserves to be documented forever.

Bad lyrics are a quintessential part of blink lore. I haven't read any of the lyric sheets from the vinyl because i don’t want to be spoiled, but it’s all about the delivery. the “you’ll go racing toward the kitchen” lyric from matt on the only thing that matters are some of the silliest lyrics but that part is so damn catchy and is constantly stuck in my head.

“Don’t like hash don’t like rap Greg says cut the 13th track”

that is my input to this thread today

So Blink had bad lyrics in their early albums so we shouldn’t judge them for using them 20 years later? lol

In all of his interviews he seems nothing but grateful for his time producing. also i’m sure the big sales, huge tours, and grammy nomination from California are all the validation he needed.

I agree there will be enough overlap on the new record in the production and sounds and everyone who raged in the skiba era won’t say shit because tom is back.

I listen to some rap. And what about hash? And yea, Degenrate sticks out on the album to me. So, sure, cut it.

  12. I think this is well said.

Like, yeah, there's some dumb ass stuff said on that album (can't think of one of their albums that doesn't have a "wait what" moment) ... but at 40, thinking about me at 14, I come down on the ship in a bottle captured in time thing. I'm not holding it up as an example of perfect prose haha.

  13. No, my argument would be: if you're listening to Blink-182 for (or are expecting) great lyrics, like, what are you doing? It's blink-182 :crylaugh: they don't write "great" lyrics. Never have.

I’m just making a bad dad joke out of the chorus, that’s all

They wrote better lyrics without Tom.

  16. Put another way, I don't order a take out burger and expect wagyu. I've been listening to this band since 1997, I am fully aware of what I'm expecting and going to get. It's like the weird shit they say live that makes me cringe (and also sometimes makes me laugh).

Give me one good reason is terrible lyrically but as a teen it was one of my favorites

They've written brilliantly simple lyrics with vivid character and personality. Some albums I think they had a better batting average than other albums, lyrically, but I also don't look for lyrics divorced from the melody and rhythm to read on paper like Mary Oliver. They should benefit the song first and anything above that is great.

Exactly. If I hear the song and the lyrics stick out to me even in context and make me cringe or make me not want to listen to the song…THEN I’ll criticize them. But reading them on paper does nothing for me.
