  1. Went to a farm to tip some cows
Forgot that I left my pants down
Bent over to pick them up
Felt a twelve gauge next to my hum diddy dum

Why do girls wanna pierce their nose
And walk around in torn pantyhose oh yeah

To go from Untitled / Neighborhoods / Dogs Eating Dogs, which despite difference in production quality all had pretty great thoughtful lyrics, to… whatever the fuck that shit is. Is very jarring.

What little I've gathered so far is what I would expect from Tom returning to blink

Terrified read a little AVA-ish but as long as it's blink-Tom voice it'll hopefully feel closer to Untitled lol

EDGING lyrics look like Shakespeare compared to these leaked lyrics for the other songs

MTYK has cool lyrics that fit in with their later-period albums. Terrified seems to as well. Why can’t those coexist with stuff like Edging? I don’t want 100% serious blink or 100% slapstick blink at this point in my life. Give me both!

I agree 100%. Makes me Sick was such a fantastic record and "return to form." I had such high hopes for the follow-up and it just... it was very disappointing in pretty much every metric.

  8. No Paul Revere lyrics so far, so we good.

  9. I'm sure we'll get the fluffy Blink, but I'm also expecting some darker stuff too. At least in the same realm as Nine, maybe. Kind of a mixed bag on there.

Yeah I don't know how a band goes through a cancer diagnosis/treatment/recovery and an emotional reformation to NOT write some darker material. 17 songs is a lot, so I'm expecting quite a few of those heavier hitters.

Makes Me Sick is such an underrated record.

    Only Tom's portions. Ha!

One day, in the far off distant future, there will be a college course devoted to dissecting Blink-182 lyrics.

    Today is not that day.

That's mostly what I mean in my post though. Bad songwriting and bad melodies/cadences will accentuate bad lyrics.

On paper, the lyrics for "One More Time" don't blow me away by any means. Just reading them on the screen before I had heard the song, I didn't think they were very good and were a little too on-the-nose. However, when I hear them in the context of the song, I have 0 issue with them because it just works for with the melodies they wrote. That's why I don't really see much point in getting myself worked up over lyrics that look bad on paper when I haven't even heard the songs.

    But that song is bad.

  16. Dude Ranch is pretty close to perfect to me. (Even the absurdly stupid lyric songs in their discography, which they are absolutely about to add to again.)

Dude Ranch and Untitled are their best albums for different reasons

Jesus, what the hell... "Fell In Love" and "When We Were Young" have abysmal lyrics. Amongst the worst I can think from blink and they have plenty of great (and bad) ones. I don't even need to go further than "More Than You Know" to find good poetic lyrics...

On the other hand, I love everything about "Anthem Part 3". Lyrically and soundwise (from what we've got). "Terrified" seems pretty good as well.

Personally, my issue is not that there's lighthearted stuff as well. "Edging" is fine, but some of these read like a stereotypical/fan-made/AI version of blink. Both "serious" and "slapstick" can be good or bad...

also apparently it’s “wait for the fuckery” and not “wait for the phone to ring” on MTYK??

Oh, totally. And I don't think the intent was the same in the end. The LTJ scenario felt more like them trying to promote as best they could (e.g., find a way to describe the sound as "poppy AF" without losing cred or whatever). That album's got a lot of sheen and a few obvious attempts at a "hit." So I get it.

...And I'm realizing the original post was meant for the Sum-41 discussion. LOL. It's way more relevant to what Sum-41's been saying (versus what fans were assuming from Blink based on the three guys in the room and tracks thus far). Yikes. My B.

The song doesn't show up as explicit on Apple Music, might just be a booklet error.
