literally nobody is bringing up or talking about grades

Lowest sack rate in the league should make you feel very good.

Actually, one of the funnier parts of this is that it proably underrates Russell's play because he spent like 2.5 quarters exclusively throwing the ball trailing by 20+ points to a defense that knew he was throwing. He's actually a nearly 110 rated QB in the first 2 closer games.

But definitely the downside of QBR is it can over-rate garbage time dudes. Guys who get like 8/10 for 100+ yards and a TD on the last couple of drives in a game they're losing by 2 TDs and suddenly instead of an 85 rating its 98.

 

the post was claiming that basic stats don’t illustrate QB play very well. But I disagree with that and think Mahomes & Wilson’s stats being nearly identical so far makes sense. If you actually watch the Chiefs and Broncos first two games it’s clear Mahomes wasnt having his best games and Wilson was looking better than last year. Then Mahomes went off against the Bears and Wilson didn’t do much against the Dolphins and that evened the scales.

It claims that because basic stats do not illustrate QB play well. Wilson has been better than last year yes but he has absolutely not been as good as Mahomes. Those stats are inflated BY the Dolphins game too.

 

Drew if you dont think the game changed after Carr went down, then I dont know what to tell you.

I actually do agree with this point but that sorta thing often regresses to the mean. Bortles was a great garbage time QB lol but the dumb things he did to get down in the first place still really negatively affected his grade. It weighs TD / INT ratio so heavily that even a guy who gets inflated Y/A from meaningless 15 yard passes against prevent defense, has nowhere to hide from those 2-3 back breaking interceptions

I do agree with Randall that it bothers me how much “advanced stats” is a more sophisticated way of saying “my (possibly) educated opinion” a lot of the time

this popped up on my Twitter feed this morning and it kills me how mostly unusable it is because the two metrics are so poorly correlated in every quadrant but the bottom right

 

I dunno - seems like Winston threw exactly the same as Carr

the game changed when the Packers started to get consistent pressure on the QB and took away the run.

I can tell you without a doubt that Derek Carr and James Winston played exactly the same that game lol

 

Mahomes legitimately did not play that well against Detroit or against Jacksonville. Stop nametag scouting lol, it’s okay, the GOAT QB had two off games (because he’s human) and scored the same as Russell Wilson. That doesn’t at all mean Wilson is as good as him, if anything it does properly respect Mahomes talent that his bad games are still as good as Wilson’s good games
