I mean if they’re a big name TE that is criticized for blocking that probably does mean they’re a real good receiver, cause they wouldn’t even be getting that scrutiny if they weren’t. That’s usually a “he’s a gifted receiver BUT how many snaps will teams keep him on the field” type of analysis

This isn’t that farfetched. Russell Wilson has been playing better than last year, and Mahomes got off to a rough start (by his standards) the first two weeks. I think the numbers accurately illustrate how they have played. I actually think the opposite - I prefer to use a combination of simple stats and weigh them against each other, more than I like using advanced metrics where I can’t really tell how it’s weighted or measured.

The only combined metric that I like is QB rating, and that’s because

1) you can actually look up the formula online and it makes sense, gives appropriate weight to 3 very important but different facets of being a QB (completion percentage, yards per attempt, TD/INT ratio)

2) I’ve never once in my whole life of knowing about the stat, seen a QB rating that didn’t make sense. It straight up doesn’t lie. You never see a guys QB rating, or rank certain QBs ratings against others, and think “what the fuck, how?”
