TL; DR: Play the game in Performance mode. The lighting is much better now in it

 

Need for speed unbound has an insidious grasp on me despite numerous flaws I’ve found with the game. I have to play it with the sound off or I lose my mind, the voice acting is more cringe than any other game I’ve ever played and the soundtrack is an algorithms idea of what a 14 year old thinks is cool. On the gameplay side of things the AI racers are so fucking unfair it’s almost hilarious I will see them speed match when I’m boosting nitrous which should launch me ahead easily and yet I gain no ground because they’re superhuman or something. Tons and tons of instances like that where I lose due to unfair AI. And don’t even get me started on the cops. All that said I logged 8 hours yesterday and the gameplay loop of night and day with heat and building money for the weeks qualifier is super super super addicting.

 

also very good: Need For Speed Rivals. It's almost a soulslike.

 

I once kicked a debilitating Dark Souls 2 habit by playing a mainline Forza game, mechanically it somehow made sense at the time
