Same here. I played all three new songs then put on Childhood Eyes. No way I would have believed someone if they would have told me last year that that would be a thing I could do in 2023.

If you want to try, I’d give Dookie and Warning a shot. Probably their best pure collections of well written, well produced songs. Jerry Finn mixed Dookie, it was his big break.

Fine, I'll bite on the GD thing... I'm another one of those that hasn't enjoyed anything since 21CB and I agree that album is pretty bloated. I only liked a couple songs from it. Funny someone called out 21 guns, because that's my favorite song from it haha.

While I like the band, I don't think there is a single album of theirs that I love top to bottom. Their greatest hits album "international super hits" is total fire though. Even American Idiot that has some great songs, still is only about half enjoyable for me.

Yea! This is exactly why we have TWO blink threads. Put this shit in the other one!

Green Day has great albums front front to back all the way to American Idiot. Every album rules for different reasons. 21CBD is fine. Trilogy was a massive misstep. RevRad was a return to some solid tunes. FOAM is straight up shit. Despite their two clear duds, I’ll listen to Green Day until I die. Everything from AI and back is worth listening to forever.

Just glad there's no hint of that warbling Tom does in AVA on any of these three songs so far. Pure blink Tom

This did at least inspire me to go listen to Warning, which rips.

The bass riffs on Minority is one of my earliest bass lessons.

A childhood friend of mine learned Hitchin a Ride on bass and would play it non stop. That song still fucking rules to this day. Also, again, more than you know which is the new blink 182 song rules as well. I’m so happy to hear Tom sound so rejuvenated.

This thread waits a calendar year speculating daily for news and new songs, gets two in one day and less than a week later the forum becomes a hot bed for green day takes.

So, which band of the two do you think has diversified the most from its pop punk roots? Green Day transformation seems to be much more recognized. Specifically with the whole rock opera stuff. They also had/have that folky or garage rock tinged sound sometimes...

However, I do feel blink possesses a wider pallete by now. Maybe having three lead vocalists over the course of its history helps things sounding fresher... More than that, blink went closer to '80s, new wave, post-punk or even space rock vibes. But then songs like "Snake Charmer", "Violence" or "6/8" are clearly influenced by post-hardcore. There's also "Fighting The Gravity" which is just plain weird, and I can't imagine Green Day ever writing something like that.

I think if blink wants to shake things up in a future album and deviate more from pop punk, they have more places to go than Green Day. Either going full new wave/post-punk or going post-hardcore/emo...
