I honestly have zero positive expectations for their upcoming album. It’s been recorded well over a year ago (maybe longer) and they decided to keep pushing it back to release anniversary editions of previous albums instead should tell you all you need to know about it. Then again I haven’t truly liked a Green Day album in 14 years so that doesn’t help my expectations either.

 

Been a few days with these songs now, and I must say playing MTYK loud-af driving on a sunny day fucking shreds.

 

Can we get a simple new logo hat? Basic color with a white 5-arrow. Profit.

 

Yup. They did it the expensive way. Minimalistic but beautiful. This guy’s cover emmm… it makes the song more cheap if that makes sense.

Anyway, OMT is perfect. Actually it’s their best song since Untitled if we’re talking about Mark-Tom-Travis lineup.

 

What I can’t stand about Green Day… it’s just their overall vibe ahahahahah

And musically, it’s like kinda boring? It’s like all their latest songs sound like the 2nd part of this video:

That one note “melody” in the end always had me dying laughing

 

I Like this song.

 

Funniest part about that light is that it has an auto-shut off after an hour of being lit. So Mark's bass tech has to sneak on stage to turn it off/on again about 50 minutes into the set.

 

How fitting that even a lamp modeled after Garfield would be lazy.

 

Other than not wanting their sets to be 93 minutes long, have they ever given a reason why they don't play "Josie" at every single show?

 

Cause Down really gets the crowd going

 

Personally glad we'll never get Los Angeles live during a blink set ever again

I've not heard much new Green Day post the 21st Century Breakdown and that is pretty bad.

 

It has always been weird to me that they've prioritized Carousel and M+Ms over Josie in the live shows

 

This person gets it.

 

I saw it live and it was good live and is good in general but go off lol

 

When green days style went business casual that’s when they lost me. Everything before American idiot was great.

 

Have both bands play at the same time at WWWY fest with Blink playing FOAM full album playthrough and GD playing Neighborhoods fully through

Blink is definitely the hotter band *right now* and rightfully so, for obvious reasons. But I still think Green Day could announce an arena tour tomorrow and it’d sell out without much issue. That said, I don't think they could release an album that would make anywhere near the amount of waves a Blink alum release could at this point though.

Both bands are wildly successful, culturally transcendent and could never do another thing and their impact/legacy would be cemented. So, it's kind of a silly argument.

 

Played Edging today and couldn't be happier with the range on the three singles we have. Very curious what the feel of the whole record is from start to finish. Also, edging is so triumphant and celebratory in the mix with the other two.

 

I think Green Day will eventually release another massive record. At least I hope they do and I hope I like it.

but maybe American Idiot was it?

I look at blink and the lull they had with neighborhoods, DED, and then the break up. I didn’t personally like California but they came out swinging and it was a successful record. And now they’re about to do it again.

No reason GD couldn’t do it again.

 

Green Day has nothing left to prove, whereas blink with Tom definitely do. I'd say the days of Green Day swinging for the fences are long gone. And that's fine because albums like Warning weren't big bold statements – just great songs.

 

Green Day has a lot to prove to me. That last album was an musical travesty. The one before? Pretty good. The three before that? Awful awful. I'd like at least another pretty good one.
