I Know What You Did Last Summer for my Williamson category today. This is more of a comfort watch than anything and it’s how I want to start my Saturday.

I’ve seen several people select Color Out of Space (it’s fun!). I’m doing The Resurrected (haven’t seen). I can recommend Dagon! Haven’t seen the Castle Freak remake but that’s another option. I think @Aaron Mook is doing that one.

Also, not a movie but Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities had several direct adaptations that you could count towards our list

  6. Yeah, I'm doing the Castle Freak remake but I loved Dagon

  7. I'm not making much progress on my list of picks but at the same time I kind of am? I'm probably gonna end up double dipping because there's a few I didn't intend to use that just happened to fall into those categories, but technically so far I have

a movie that takes place on halloween (A Haunting in Venice)
a cryptid movie (It Lives Inside)
a Romero horror film you've never seen (Night of the Living Dead)
a movie starring an actress born in 1993 (Nope)

Also it’s been bothering me for weeks why I knew Brian Duffield’s name, but I kept forgetting to just look it up/being lazy. So thanks to that tweet I now know he did Spontaneous and I fucking love that movie

Gonna try Hellraiser '87 and '22 double feature, if I can stomach it. OG hasn't grossed me out so far even tho the special effects certainly are quite impressive

Edit: 80s body horror pick, Hellraiser '87 was a little underwhelming. I was kinda reluctant bc of the franchise's reputation but the adultery subplot took up too much of the movie so there was hardly any time for the Cenobites to do their thing. I was afraid this would be too gross but compared to' 22 it really wasn't. Maybe the sequels lean into the torture stuff more, but tbh idk if that would make me more or less interested to check them out

Spontaneous is such a great premise with a few weird character choices that take me out of it

  17. I guess I should check out Spontaneous because I've never even heard of it

Just finished my rewatch of Cursed for the Kevin Williamson movie category. The first time I saw it was when it released on DVD. I only remembered 2 scenes from it. Didn't care for it much back then and still don't now haha. Shame since it has such a good cast. 2.5/5

I liked but didn’t love no one will save you. Felt like a twilight zone episode pushed out to a 90 minute movie.

For my remake pick I rewatched Hellraiser 2022, something I didn't think I'd ever put myself through again. I still don't know if I "like" this movie but I really appreciate how visually captivating it is, from the Cenobite designs to the way the walls morph into hallways, and just the way lighting is used in general throughout. It's fascinating enough that I can put aside how uncomfy it makes me feel (whereas something like Terrifier just doesn't sound like a good time to me). I hadn't seen the original until today, so when I first saw the remake I didn't have that reference point to compare it to. This isn't really the kind of horror I usually seek out, what drew me to it in the first place were David Bruckner (The Night House) and Jamie Clayton (Sense8), who obviously killed it. Now that I've seen the original (but none of the sequels) I think the remake brings so much more to the table. Like the new Candyman, this does a good job of updating an older franchise to modern sensibilities.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I ended up watching Smile today finally with nothing to do. surprisingly brutal stuff, kinda felt like the Drag Me to Hell sequel I always wanted. can't say I loved the message that trauma is unbeatable and always wins lmao but it is what it is, good movie

I started Willy's Wonderland on a whim and realized I could use this for my inanimate antagonist pick lolol

Edit: hah, that was awesome. Solid Nic Cage flick

Threw Slice on this morning for my horror movie with a hip hop artist in it. I was hoping to love it, but most of the comedy just didn't work for me. A couple fun scenes though. Oh, and Chance the Rapper was the hip hop artist in it. He was fine. Zazie Beetz is always a delight at least 2.5/5
