Most blink covers sound nothing like blink (not that this one is suppose to) but his have always been on the lower end of accuracy to me. Obviously well produced but they never sound much like blink to me

 

You guys are so weird. He just does covers of songs. And really good ones. Would you hate it less if the title was just Damnit (cover)? Seemingly hating anything he does just because of how he titles his videos. Truly don't know how his stuff isn't more liked on here - he's a damn talented musician.

 

I feel like I’ve pretty much hate any and all blink covers unless it was Colleen Green (?) and there was another female artist that did a cover of Don’t Leave Me like 8 years ago that sounded really good.

 

I think this is spot on for me. I don’t like any male vocalist covers of Blink songs besides Ruston Kelly’s. Taylor Acorn’s first date is good. The genre switch YouTube stuff I find grating.

 

I get the criticism of his recent stuff, but the early “If fall out boy…” ones were pretty spot on:

jk I just don’t care about covers 99.9% of the time with obvious exceptions like NFG’s Screen To The Stereo and such. I’m just not really interested in songs from another artist. I’m listening to you for YOUR songwriting.

Absolutely. I think I only like seeing covers live when it’s an opening band that isn’t getting a pop from the crowd and they want to get people warmed up. Playing a well known song then brings everyone up and joined to sing. Example would be Four Year Strong playing Brain Stew/Jaded when they opened for NFG last summer for the Sticks and Stones tour.

But headliner? Please don’t waste a spot in the setlist for a cover, please.

I understand why people would want to write and try genre switching stuff, etc, especially if you're a versatile and curious musician.

The issue I have with Alex Melton's is that his videos almost pose the cover as a question "What if blink-182 wrote..." as if people want to know. And the accompanying video is cringey and dumb. In my eyes anyway.

I know it's easy for me to sit here and criticize a content creator from my keyboard when I'm not the one doing what he's doing, but over-the-top genre switching videos aren't for me.

You have just made a personal decision and claimed there is an alternate blink-182 band that is “yours.” In reality, blink-182 is still blink-182. Is Dammit a cover to you? Travis is not Scott. Which version is your band? Do you have proof of ownership?

I honestly don’t even know. I think a blink thread is a safe space to say random shit.

 

But but but... what about Odi acoustic's covers? I know his vocals sound like he was singing in a tin can but I spun those entire cover albums a few times.

There also was a acoustic "going away to college" cover from like 15+ years ago which was decent.

 

Another random memory that popped back into my mind...
