them getting in pitchfork is only a positive thing, what a weird way to be a person to think otherwise lol

^if this is a response to me, it's because pitchfork's historical music criticism and coverage when it comes to extreme music is tepid at best...combine that with the fact it's historical pretentiousness, and i think the skepticism is warranted. it's great that tomb mold is getting some props from more mainstream publications than decibel or revolver, but there are plenty of other deserving acts out there who deserve the spotlight that aren't getting best new music props.

Yeah, usually it means the magazine really likes your music. What a dumbass take.

Wasn't it Pitchfork that said Deafheaven was 'saving black metal'? lol

their attitude about writing for metal is dumb but it would be incredibly foolish to assume that a tonnnn of people won't check the band out and find out about them solely off this review. it is only a good thing.

calling the people who write at pitchfork in 2023 pretentious or influential is hilariously off the mark lol website is washed and lacks any sort of cultural relevance

Isn't that exactly why they're pretentious ("attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed")?

i dont think this new crop of writers is attempting to impress at all they're mostly very mediocre and boring i think what made them pretentious back in the day is that they had a good amount of writers who could, well, write.

that and the complete tonal shift over the last 10-12 years that is extremely apparent to anyone paying attention makes me laugh when people still think pitchfork of 2023 has the same bite pitchfork of 2003 had. very dull publication and calling them pretentious is giving them too much credit

I'll admit my impression of Pitchfork is dated. I was really just posting more to poke fun at the guy complaining about their outfits on the magazine cover.

I haven't paid attention to Pitchfork consistently since 2011 when I stopped being involved in college radio so that tracks.

My two cents: Pitchfork is the LAST place I would go to read a review on a metal album. That being said, it’s cool they reviewed it and if it gets a person who lives and breaths by it’s every word to check it out: thumbs up.

    I don’t think I’ve read a pitchfork review in over 10 years.

I don’t think that non-sequiturs and flowery language equate to writing talent, but I getcha.
