The Saw franchise really works best watching them as close to back to back as possible like a real sicko. This is probably my 4th time watching them and the most fun I’ve ever had with them.

Checked out The Convent for the watch a movie in the year you were 13 years old category. Came out in 2000 and it really feels like an early 2000s movie but man it's a fun time. Just a really silly Night of the Demons tbh. Has horror queen, Adrienne Barbeau and even a small Coolio role so you could watch it for the hip hop category if you wanted to. 3.5/5

  8. First time seeing Night of the Living Dead. Pretty standard zombie flick--by which I mean it set the standard. Dumb guy gets people killed while smart guy, uh, does his best. Slow-walking flesh-eating undead, but the real enemy is the idiots we meet along the way. These zombies are surprisingly smart tho, often using tools to break things or break into places. I love the music, movies just don't sound like that anymore. This is one of those things where I can appreciate how influential it was for its time but I've been desensitized by the special effects and cgi of all that came after. Must've been super scary when it came out, now it's just... "cozy." Kinda weird that we keep using that word to describe horror lolol

Went back and finished Ghosts of Mars last night, what a trip. I did not realize while watching that it is supposed to be taken as hyperbole, or almost satire (?). Carpenter stated as much after the fact when it was received poorly. Which I guess I should've caught on to that from the start considering the plot and some of the names (Ice Cube's character is supposed to be a badass nefarious criminal named James "Desolation" Williams). I'd probably really enjoy it if I rewatched it through those lens. I was baffled cause it's hard to find much of Carpenter's fingerprint anywhere and when played straight, it's just a really bad horror/scifi with cheesy acting and explosion sequences. It's like someone forced Carpenter to make a futuristic Mad Max-adjacent movie set in space with loads of nu metal and then at gunpoint, he had to attempt to break the record for most "guy gets blown up and flies offscreen" scenes. Maybe I hated it, maybe I loved it, who knows.

  11. It's an experience for sure. Love Carpenter, but I always felt like "it's supposed to be bad" coming after the reviews was some pretty poor damage control lol

Watched Annabelle: Creation last night and enjoyed it. Trying to watch all the Conjuring universe movies in order of release that I started back in..... 2021. (takes me awhile). I liked this one as much as if not more than the original Conjuring. My least fav of the bunch so far has been Conjuring 2 for sure. The Nun is up next whenever I get around to it.

This Gourley and Rust episode is bordering on unlistenable. It's not fun for them to basically keep saying "I'm not trying to be superior, but you're an idiot if you like this", I couldn't really care less if they like Doctor Sleep or not, but the energy is a bummer. It's also weird how little they can divorce Doctor Sleep from Kubrick's The Shining. I really don't even see it as a sequel to that movie, maybe it's easier if you read The Shining, but if your standard for a movie being good is to hold it up to that film, it's not really fair.

I'm also kind of annoyed with them doing Yuppie Nightmare season 2 in October, do something spooky and save that for November / December.

  14. I liked the episode, but I also fully agree with them about the movie (and also loved their Yuppie Nightmare season)

I want another Yuppie Nightmare season, but not in October, I'm not going to be watching those as they release. I just wish they put a little more thought into it sometimes.

Really disappointed I haven’t started going through my list yet, but I’m thankful we’re kinda going at our own pace and don’t have a set deadline. Been having a rough few days and just haven’t been in the right mindset. Here’s hoping I can shake it off and start soon

  18. Yeah, I've struggled to find/pick something cozy yesterday or today. Anxiety has just been through the roof. Might do Creature from the Black Lagoon tonigh to make way for Revenge of the Creature.

Does Gargoyles count as horror adjacent? Lol I needed something comforting to watch and me and my friend have been reminiscing about the show for like the last month, so I started a rewatch of that.

It’s so good! Also I was reading up on it the other night and apparently Jordan Peele actually pitched a live action movie to Disney, but they didn’t go forward with it.

Definitely seeing it this week. Feel like people will be put off by it because it's pg-13 but the trailers look creepy as hell so I'm hyped

  25. Definitely interested, really liked the trailer, but I keep forgetting that's what it's called. Nice to have South Asian rep in a horror and a comedy (Polite Society) this year

I mean I kinda get it, Boogeyman was pg13 and while it's a fine movie it's relatively safe and forgettable. While I love M3gan, the tiny differences in the unrated version make it so much better
