I understand that we apparently disagree, or that you don't believe the sincerity of what I am saying. I posted a big post that you admit that you didn't read. Multiple times in it, I said none of it was an excuse.

It feels like your opinion is formed entirely on my mentioning that I have tickets and was going to the LA show next month and the size of the post.

It even opened with "here is my take but it's not discounting anyone's opinion"
Generally the takes in this message board were much less combative than I've seen on Reddit, so I made a post.
Already said I wasn't attempting to start something. I suppose we are both just wasting each others breath

 

You have responded at least twice that you didn’t know something and needed to do more research. This means you are ignorant of those things.

 

I don't think this conversation has worked out the way they were expecting...

 

I think we can take a breather in this thread. @ThirdAtlantic 's comments since their initial post read genuine to me and as a community, I think there's a better way to discuss a new community member's viewpoint than to go after them for making a relatively thoughtful (albeit biased and a bit uninformed) post. Especially considering they felt safe doing so because they thought the site was a civil place.

Leadheaded, misguided, uninformed, unintentionally defensive, and sure, ignorant by the definition of the word.

I will do more reading, and am open to any links that aren't Reddit anyone would be willing to send. I make that specification only because as someone who only started using it about 6 months ago, typically the only thing I see, no matter what the topic is, is argument for the sake of it.

I understand that this is the internet and that's part in parcel, but I don't have the time or energy for that.

 

Apparently he talked about it on his Mental Academy podcast thing. IIRC they were having sex and Sheri was intoxicated and passed out and he kept going? *edit* Unclear if this is true. I have seen it referenced a few other places

I'm not sure I get the point you're trying to make here. Even though you claim you're not excusing him, the constant reminder of his BPD diagnosis doesn't exactly convey that and instead feels like like you're trying to let him avoid accountability, and to lecture us even though people on here are well aware of his mental struggles and have been thoughtful (at least, much more than some of the things I've read on reddit) about it. Did you feel like the thread had come close to ableism at times?

Fwiw, and there's a lot of legitimate reasons to not fuck with Max anymore, I just listened and this is...not what I heard. Unless I missed it, he says that Sherri started to pass out during sex due to her alcoholism (which was hidden from everyone) and that it happened on more than one occasion. He did not say anything about having sex with her after she passed out.

Again, plenty of valid reasons to hold someone accountable, but considering just what's said here, I think this is more of a case of us knowing too much about two strangers' marriage and general struggles than it is something tangible, like the Reddit post.

Max doesn't have BPD, I referenced my BPD.

To be honest, I didn't really have an agenda. I just started typing and then I hit post.

I encounter ableism a lot in my work, not toward me because no one knows (idk if I can even say the lack of comfort in disclosing can even be blamed on them after over a half decade) and I didn't feel that when I was reading through the thread.

It's hard to suggest that even if someone shouldn't get a pass that there are factors that you can feel haven't been considered?

Does that make sense?

I totally get after rereading it back a couple of times that it slants into defending, and I own that, but I don't think it's right to change it, or remove it as it feels like that would be a cop out.

 

I just finished it and while it was a bogus and pretty boring thing, I agree that I didn't hear anything which matched that he had sex with Sherri while she was passed out.

He did casually blame her struggles on his not meeting Song Shop and Comic Script deadlines though which I don't think is cool. I think the intent was to say she was there when he needed to go to rehab and he is there as she does too, but the positioning wasn't quite there.

 

I love how it's not even him missing deadlines that's what gets people, it's the fact he doesn't finish these projects AT ALL that gets people. These are things people pay for and he just casually blames his wife with alcohol problems for him not doing them? Trash.

 

I will just say the same thing that I would say to anyone and would hope would be said to me. Take the 40m and listen and see how you feel about it.

Yea, if that’s where the sexual assault claim is coming from, I don’t see it that way. What he said and revealed about his wife is super gross and fucked up, but it wasn’t that.

 

I'm not listening to 40m of his bullshit AGAIN. I've watched so so many videos of his over the years and read his little manifestos or whatever and I'm just not interested.

If I want to hear him talk about egotistical bullshit where he's escaping his problems for 40 minutes I'll listen to one of his albums because at least it's catchy

 

I did take away that it was pretty bogus that he shared a boatload of details that she never shared when he was in rehab himself which is at best a betrayal and at worst straight throwing her under the bus.

Pretty classless to say the least

Edit: I will say that listening to it can at least block anyone using that as ammo in a disagreement. In general.

This is too low stakes for it to ever matter, but for myself it bit me in the ass when after I defended my position it was found out that I had never even seen/heard/read what I was defending an opinion on.
