It’s the cell phone line in that one song. I remember that being my breaking point when it first came out.

For all that Sam’s Town got the Springsteen comparisons, that part of “Runaways” might be the most Bruce thing they ever wrote.

Imploding The Mirage is a great album, but the two songs featuring other people drag it down a tiny bit for me. I don't hate them as much as it sounds like you hate Battle Born / "Deadlines and Commitments", but I don't love them like I love the other 8 songs on ITM. They're just okayish while the rest of that album kicks all sorts of ass.

Agreed that part of that song is cringe, but the verses of the song all really captured that whole lost love thing and gave me nostalgia about ghosts of gf past and such haha. Even some of the corniness in this verse really is just straight up "Yeah that's exactly how it feels/felt"

Spent the summer, just laying out in the sun
Time seems to move so slow
When you're taking it as it comes (Taking it as it comes)
Maybe we were just too young (Maybe we were just too young)
Your body was tanned and your hair was long
You showed me your smile and my cares were gone
Falling in love filled my soul with fright
You said, "Come on babe, it'll be alright"
I must have been a fool to the bitter end
Now I hold on to hope to have you back again

  7. Damn, "Your Side of Town" is awesome lol. Love Pressure Machine to death, but I would take a full synth-pop album like that.

But what's so wrong with saying someone doesn't wanna see pictures of someone on their cell phone but would rather actually see them in person? Do you hate cell phones?

I think Battle Born is one of the most boring albums I've ever listened to

If you find that album boring then I wonder what your idea of fun is.

  13. Battle Born? More like Battle Boring

  14. Honestly it's really just the first two, Sawdust, and Pressure Machine for me, plus a handful of singles.

I can't handle all of this Battle Born slander so I need to derail the conversation.

"Runaway Horses II" is infinitely superior to "Runaway Horses (feat. Phoebe Bridgers)", and "The Getting By V", "The Getting By III", and "The Getting By II (feat. Lucious)" - in that order - are all better than "The Getting By" the album track, although I do fully recognize that III would make no sense at all on the album.

The Battle Born slander makes me love it even more.

    Up against the wall
There's something dying on the street
    When they knock you down
You're gonna get back on your feet
    No, you can't stop now
    When they break your heart
When they cause your soul to mourn
    Remember what I said
    Boy, you was battle born
    No, you can't stop now

It's called Battle Born because it's really a battle to...be...born into liking that album?

    Oof, I'm rusty at this....

“The Rising Tide,” sickest guitar solo Dave ever played.

no I hate the line lol. it’s too obvious / plain / amateurish

it also ruins any chance of the track being considered “timeless”

Idk it came out 11 years ago and we’re still using cell phones!

I love that synth line and the way they buried it in the eventual studio version of Flesh and Bone is a crime

So much of this is join-the-dots nostalgia free of Brandon’s weirdo songwriting personality/quirks, one of the reasons I still struggle with Battle Born compared to the rest of their albums. They just seems to get middle-aged so quickly between Day & Age and that record.

I will say that BB arguably has the best ending to a Killers album - Be Still is their best slow song for my money, and the title track is great. Even then, you could easily argue for Pressure Machine into Getting By. Or the 3-song run of My God - When The Dreams Run Dry - Imploding the Mirage!
