Same. It came out just before I turned 30 and hit me like a ton of bricks as someone who was dealing with the typical “holy shit, I’m not longer in my 20’s” mental health issues. Bummed I never got to see them play any shows here during that time.

Definitely another reason it’s so special, I was lucky enough that they played Pittsburgh like 3-4 times in that year right after it came out and it was so cool to watch the crowd get bigger every time.

Schmaltz rules and Joana is still probably my favorite song of theirs.

That 8-9 song set opening for HM is going to have me itching for a headliner. Really wish HAM wasn’t on that tour so SLS could have a nice direct support set. Hoping they do a spring headliner so I can hear a lot of these songs live.

Schmaltz is top tier. I understand why people like BFE more but I don’t feel that way at all

As someone who only came around to BFE recently, this record is such a step up in songwriting. Love the interweaving themes and lyrics

After a few days I think this is my favourite album. Bawled my eyes and guts out. This bands lyrics hits in a different way. On every album, but on No Joy they fucking break me.

It's rare that I find a band with a three album stretch that connects with me as much as Schmaltz/BFE/NJ have been connecting with me for the last few years. Think I only found out about this band right before BFE dropped

I've tried to give Schmaltz a few tries recently but it just never registers for me. Might need to follow along with the lyrics open sometime to see if it lands better that way.

Just listened to Schmaltz at work and yeah it’s still really great. Even the ones I don’t *love* (El Niño and Beer & NyQuil) are still pretty good!

Album is really good but unfortunately references about all the things that I usually go to music or other distractions to avoid thinking about. I'm finding it more difficult to get through than BFE just because of the subject matter.

Songs are great though. Middle of Nine is a gut punch. Haunted was an early favorite and remains one of my favorite tracks.

Though I think I prefer BFE overall now, Schmaltz is going to have a special place for me forever because I was at a very low point when it came out and I can't think of anything that resonated with me quite a significantly as that in a very long time.

Even as a die hard Wonder Years fan, who has never ranked any of their albums as anything but my favorite of the year, Sister Cities was usurped by Schmaltz. It was that big of a deal for me.

I was busy most of the weekend and didn't get to listen to No Joy nearly as much as I'd have liked. Looking forward to changing that this week.
