Somewhat ironically, I defend the NBA Championship as the World Championship.

I mean it's pretty clear both the NBA championship and the Super Bowl are pretty safely called world champions. Whenever our NBA stars decide to care, they basically go to the olympics and dominate lol. And no one can compete in football for obvious reasons.

World Series and Stanley Cup? ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Can you call the Super Bowl the world championship if the rest of the world doesn’t even care enough to play the sport?

Curious does the winner of the champions league call themselves world champions? At least they get the best teams together from different areas. If not we have no business doing it for our leagues imo

It makes sense to call it the world championship, all the teams are international. Its the highest level of competition in the world and its not really close. Splitting it up by country would be more technically a "world" championship, but if all the best players were playing the hardest they could play it would just be the US winning every year anyway.

I find myself enjoying the "boring" sports as I get older. Like after turning 30 I got really into baseball. Thats mostly thanks to Shohei though.

Why can’t it just be the nba championship? Why does it have to be world? Each team is named by city and they are all in one continent. It’s not a big deal it’s just sports but it’s also just obnoxious.

I am way less interested in sports as I’ve gotten older but I follow Shohei because it’s so exceptional. Really hope he can keep doing it after this injury. Football as a sport I’ve always really liked but the nfl is so gross with how it’s handled sexual assault and violence that it’s turning me off quicker than it probably should

This is odd because the NBA absolutely does not say “world champion” on any official licensing or anything like that. I don’t doubt that some overzealous announcer might say something to that effect. But this guy is full of it saying that the hats or shirts or whatever says “world champions”.

NBA Merch and all officially licensed branding very specifically calls the winning team the NBA Champions.

It’s a big country with a lot of money so yeah but also the very best nba players right now aren’t American and the most popular sport in the world we aren’t ever even top 10 at in the men’s division and just got it handed to us in the women’s so maybe not. The most exceptional athlete in the world right now is Japanese who the US just lost a world tournament to. I don’t know writing this out I’m not even seeing it

I think I watched golf almost every weekend this summer. I don't even like golf and I'm morally opposed to golf courses as a concept, but it's so relaxing to just have it on the background.

not really talking so much about winning olympics or those kinds of accomplisments. a lot of countries do certain sports better then here but as someone that just likes to watch i think we have the best combination of quality and variety. we've got everything and in many if not most cases the product we get has the best athletes from around the world.
