I think I've heard a grand total of 2 AVA songs in my lifetime.

For science, I decided to listen to "Automatic".

It was decidedly not for me. I turned it off after the chorus. I'll take any non-joke song from the last two Blink records over that any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

  5. So does that mean you also don't like the 80s classic "I Melt With You" that "Automatic" is obviously ripping off?!? Pardon my French, but you're full of scottlechowicz, sir.

I can't say that I am too enamored of that era of music. So, I'd likely say that I would take any non-joke blink song from the last two records over the Modern English track, too.

But, and it can't be said enough, I think Tom DeLonge's voice is among the most annoying sounds I willingly subject myself to on a semi-regular basis. So, you know, Modern English has that over the AvA song too.

  7. Oh, absolutely, hahaha. That's the biggest problem with AVA, 100%. And generally, if it wasn't for Tom, I most likely wouldn't even give that band the time of day whatsoever. But there's like 5 songs I like/love enough to return to.

Kinda weird to me that any hardcore blink fan would find AVA unlistenable or barely having any good songs at all.

Kiss and Tell is a blink song at heart

  10. I think it kinda depends on the eras of Blink you gravitate towards the most.

  11. I mean, one is a good band with one of the best pop-punk songwriters of all time and one of the greatest drummers to ever live. The other is annoyingly pretentious wannabe U2 songs sung by an objectively iffy at best singer. Very few bands get in the same stratosphere for what Blink do, thousands do what AVA do better. I don't think it's that weird, as someone that's been saying a variation of this since 2006. They're just not very good songs that highlight the worst of Tom's songwriting predilections.

Admittedly, I am extremely biased. I am a blink fan, sure, but they are not like a top 20 band for me or anything. They were a gateway for me in 8th grade to other pop-punk and then a hard emo turn. But really, my blink fandom is Mark on bass/vocals, Tom on guitar (and maybe back-up vocals), and Travis.

So, I am decidedly not AvA's target audience lol.

I just like Automatic so much because the guitars sound like The Cure

You're certainly right there... Tom definitely leans on those crutches in AVA that I'm sure Mark and Jerry pushed him away from on a daily basis in the blink songwriting process

  16. Aside from having a couple true bangers, this is accurate.

Not the biggest AVA fan myself but The War or Distraction could be top Blink songs IMO.

edit: and I really appreciate the effort of him exploring new sounds. AVA has little perfect moments in weird and confusing albums.

Savage take. Blink is 100000x more consistent than AVA but they have some bangers. When tom is throwing down killer lyrics over a strong melody it hits no matter if it's ava bcr or blink. Please god do not start ranking tom songs in the thread, but if there were a top 10 list of tom songs I would be shocked if an ava and bcr song didn't take a spot or two. It is probably true that all Mark Tom and Travis albums are better than the best ava album.

FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

There's probably a couple AvA songs I'd listen to over This Is Home but that's it lol. While I like the last album that's graded on an AvA scale. If there's songs on this album that are on par with the AvA album, that's a fail. Mark & Travis + Tom >>>>> Tom on his own
