Overblown nonsense tbh. Baldur's Gate 3 is a terrible example to use anyway. It can easily run on a Series S. Split screen, a feature that won't even be in 90% of video games released this entire generation, takes more work and that's the only reason people are losing their minds over this.

The Series S probably could have used an extra gb or two of ram, but devs don't really have excuses when Flight Sim runs on it with a locked frame rate. A game that could be argued as the only real next gen title released in the last 3 years. The pro longed cross gen phase is what has hamstrung this generation, not the Series S.

  7. Hollow Knight really is one of the best metroidvanias--one of the best games period--I've ever played, buuut it's also super frustrating and punishing haha...

Overall I'm very happy with it! But just to be clear, it's my first real gaming pc and I've had it for three weeks so I'm still in the honeymoon phase

The 6700 XT is a good deal. Its rasterized performance is compareable to a 3070 so I'm really happy with that one. I'm running every game I've tried so far at 1440p, high or ultra setting, at 60 fps minimum (with a few tweaks in some games). The cons are: no DLSS and worse ray tracing performance than Nvidia, but I decided that the extra money for better RT performance wasn't worth it right now. It might be in a few years when it's time for an upgrade.

i wanna let you guys in on a little secret: most ray traced titles run like ass no matter what graphics card you have.

it's always good to skimp out on RT perf.

Ray tracing currently only supplements modern graphic techniques. When it starts to become the standard, upgrading will make sense. The next Metro game won't work without a ray tracing card. When most AA and AAA games start to do the same, you'll know that it's time.

I mean look at Immortals of Aveum, runs like shit and the RT barely adds anything.

(The Metro: Exodus RT remaster was fine)

this is how worthless game journalists really are. they will have Starfield early for 2 weeks and wont tell their readers anything about its technical performance even though that has nothing to do with anything theyd sign an nda for. theres alot of gamers gonna buy shit for this release and it would be nice for them to make informed decisions.

hot take: most journos couldn't tell you jack shit any way.

I'm gonna say if it really isn't NDA'd, it's interesting that Digital Foundry haven't gotten codes. (unless they have)

I feel like there's definitely been a game semi-recently where it emerged the NDA did specify that they couldn't talk about performance ahead of release. Could be totally imagining that mind.

fwiw I watched the Phil Spencer interview with IGN yesterday and they sent in the Xbox tech team pretty early in Starfield's development so I am expecting fantastically solid performance.

    btw

are you basing this off of games with notriously bad performance like Cyberpunk?

Im guessing the dlss suite of features will be extremely useful for enb type modding, wouldnt you think?

im catching up from 2016 the last time i built a pc.

RT is just generally very very taxing (both GPU and CPU), but yes DLSS is mandatory in these types of titles.

it isn't. the 30fps cap on xbox is only because they can't hold a solid 60. last thing I heard is Starfield is an easy 60 on even mid PCs.

my recommendation as always is to wait for Digital Foundry to publish their optimized settings, which essentially give you the ultra look for cheaper.

my current gpu shopping position: 4070 ti or used 3080 ti. budget is $600 to $800.

what to do? shouldi even be looking at amd cards? the only good thing ive heard by comparison is you can get more than 12 gb vram for a similar price. otherwise performance is worse plus no dlss.

ignore AMD. just pay the nvidia tax. if you are really interested in RT, I recommend the 4070 ti, especially since you can undervolt it well for good thermals and it runs cooler and uses less power anyway compared to the 3080.

plus you get DLSS 3.0 frame generation which should pick up a lot of the slack when it comes to RT titles.

Rasterization perf is essentially the exact same between those two cards btw.

    here's a good comparison chart
