Solo is excellent and so is last Christmas

 

Yeah I’ve only seen like 10% of the Star Wars content that’s come out in the last decade but I did see Solo and thought it was fun.

 

Kinda feel like y'all got the wrong takeaway from that post

 

This weekend I have the first bit of shooting related to my first feature length!! I've done a lot of acting and have worked with my creative partner (and also my best buddy) on one other feature length, and a handful of shorts and random things, but last April we wrote a movie and we begin shooting some promotional material for it this weekend!!! Being walked through the entire process, from writing to casting to scouting to planning out the schedule by my friend has been such a learning experience and really opened my eyes to just how much goes into the smallest productions. I'll probably try to document some of my experiences/maybe post some pictures in this thread. We are very small-time and indie, but we're hoping to incorporate and apply for some funding when we start principal photography next summer!!!

I'm so excited to direct actors for the first time, making a movie has been my goal for basically my entire life and I am now one step closer to it

 

They should make something else with Emilia Clarkes character from Solo and her involvement with Maul, she was great in that movie

I feel like I live on another planet sometimes because these shows get huge ratings but no one I know watches them.

 

I remember going to watch parties for TWD but that was like...8 or 9 years ago?

 

Anyone I know who has watched the walking dead quit 2-5 seasons into the original

 

I started to really dislike TWD around season 7. Getting a cliffhanger at the end of S6 just for them to do what they did in ep 1 of S7 (especially with the previous death fake outs) turned me off of the show entirely

 

The thing with zombie stories is that they are at their most interesting during the initial outbreak, when you see the limits humans are pushed to and how they respond to a breakdown in society. The Walking Dead Telltale games rapidly descended in quality after the first because there was not much else to talk about.

The Last of Us takes place years later and The Last of Us 2 is even later but those work because the infected are not really the main focus. In the second game they are like a goblin in a JRPG random encounter.

 

My favorite bit of Walking Dead lore is that Robert Kirkman tried to pitch the comic as just a zombie series and was told no, those don’t sell without a hook. So, he lied and said there was going to be a later twist that the zombies were aliens, and admitted that wasn’t the plan after the initial issues came out.

A lot of times clickbait articles will just mention that side. Jim Valentino at Image Comics has said, though, that if Kirkman simply told him the hook was the father at the center, he would’ve happily approved it, lol. Dude just 100% didn’t understand the question, “what’s the story?”

My second favorite lore is Kirkman recently saying he imprinted on the 80s Transformers animated film as a kid and learned a lot about storytelling from it. Which means, the modern idea that “character death (especially unexpected)” = “stakes” fully exists in fandom… because Optimus Prime was killed so different Transformer toys could be sold.
