I watch that entire C&L live Youtube video at least once a year. The live arrangements are just so good.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

crazy, I find Ascension insanely disquieting to listen to. especially America, that's a panic attack in music form

I like the ascension for the most part but its just a little bloated and hard to listen to in one sitting

  6. having the LP has helped a lot -- it's a lot easier to crack open when you listen to it in 4 parts. also it's good to put on when you're doing other things and let certain pieces catch your ear. "Tell Me You Love Me" is one of my favorite Sufjan songs also. not my favorite of his records still but it does have a place for me

  8. "Die Happy" is incredible

I'm still mentally recovering from "C&L is only listenable in its live versions". Very impressive. Had to take a seat after that take.

I got dragged to his show while he was doing that tour expecting one thing and got completely destroyed by him bringing another thing.

My jaw was on the floor the entire set and I was on another planet while they jammed out to “we’re all gonna die”.

I still randomly text the now distant friend who pulled me into that show just to thank them whenever I think about it

If he's not going to do any touring for this album/his past few releases, I would at least love a tiny desk. That would be amazing.

I'm still just mad I didn't go to PItchfork when he played in 2016 or whatever. I don't think I realized how rare seeing him live is

That show was amazing. It's the only time I have been able to see him and it was great, especially because he wore his wacky costumes, did "Impossible Soul", and ended with a Prince cover featuring Moses Sumney.

I was literally at Outside Lands 2016 when he was playing but I got into him like 2 months later. He played fucking Impossible Soul!!!! So mad at myself

It's hard to listen to Ascension because it so perfectly encapsulates how awful everything was in 2020. It's hard to revisit, but maybe in the future I'll go back to it without all of those connotations.

I will say, I love The Ascension (maybe 3rd or 4th fave of his) but it dropping in 2020 and just a month after I moved to LA from Atlanta really takes me back to that disorienting time. It definitely makes me feel uneasy.

What's that meme about not being happy when good things happen to other people because they should've happened to me? Put that here (Jk I'm glad you got to go I'm sure it was incredible)

I saw him at Coachella a few years back, and it was a really great set throughout, but when he started Impossible Soul my jaw dropped. The fact that he pulled it out at a festival set was NOT what I expected, but it was magical

Unfortunately Asthmatic Kitty said a little while back and also in the comments of the listening party post that no tour is planned, but I thought the same thing.

Hell, I instantly thought it's a tour as well. Why did I ever miss out on going to see Sufjan live, now it doesn't seem much likely in the nearest future
