Trunks and Goten did just fine following the rules in the world martial arts tournament, even working together as Mighty Mask to hold their own against 18 despite how awkward it was. And again Krillin/Goku were able to do tournaments just as fine at their age too.

And of course the most obvious fact of it all is that they *could* have include Tien and Roshi and whoever else as well: Toriyama could have simply just written that more contestants per universe were allowed! Everyone could be happy, most importantly me

I wouldn’t be mad if the series focuses on Goten and Trunks once it catches up to Goku and Uub training. Occasionally show Goku training Uub and Gohan or Piccolo training Pan, but spend the majority of time on Goten and Trunks. Instant success, I’m sure.

The Buu arc is so goofy. All the non-Saiyon/Piccolo characters have fully accepted that they are just as helpless as any normal human, so they’re literally just chilling at the lookout playing cards while the earth is getting slowly genocided

What else could they have done though

It is definitely weird that Krillin and Yamcha have just completely stopped training at all. They had been outclassed before Frieza but they were still, with Tien, the strongest humans ever.

The introduction of super saiyan and its multiple forms made most side characters worthless. If you don’t have saiyan blood after the Frieza saga, you’re worthless. Piccolo has his one moment while fighting 17 and Tien has a small scene against Buu. That’s it.

That’s one of the reasons I enjoy Dragon Ball more than Z, GT, or Super (minus the Tournament of Power).

Help provide evacuation/shelter to the humans being genocided, for one lol. At one point they even contemplate like “I know we can just wish all the humans back with the dragon balls, but there’s still something to be said about the ongoing suffering” but then just move on lol

Almost done with the Black Star Dragon Ball saga of GT, and I think the reason this saga is infamously dull isn’t the meandering plot or how Goku/Trunks are ridiculously nerfed, but that they and Pan are just boring as hell. The original Dragon Ball is very entertaining because the characters themselves are entertaining and play off each other well, and this saga is obviously meant to be a return to form to that, but they stuck themselves with just three main characters and neither have anything going on. Giru and the occasional villain have more personality than the rest of them. And they can’t even have the occasional interaction with the other Z fighters

I mean, I think those are definitely contributing factors that I wouldn't rule out lol but I also agree with you. They're just not very good characterizations because they were trying way too hard to combine DB and DBZ, I think. Goku isn't actually a kid - he's just a shrunken down adult - so he doesn't have that fun ignorance and naivety that made him so goofy and likeable in the original Dragon Ball where he was seeing everything for the first time. They tried it, but it didn't have the same impact IMO.

Adult Trunks doesn't have the edge of Future Trunks or the attitude of his younger self. While it makes sense, it leaves him without much of a personality outside of being smart. And Pan uh...isn't really given a personality outside of being irritable, basically like they did with Chi-Chi.

It's just a strange mixture of characters, so when the plot itself is boring, the characters and their interactions don't exactly make up for it.

The only good thing to come from GT is the SS4 design

Cell Games is the best period of Z mostly due to it feeling like a more dramatic Dragon Ball.

The Tournament saga isn’t too bad, either. I feel that Toriyama knew he needed to go back to the roots in terms of atmosphere.

for me, it's the saiyan arc easily if we're talking Z. don't care much for the android/cell arc anymore

    I’d go Cell > Buu > Frieza > Saiyan

Saiyan-Frieza is the best easily. Frieza himself is by far the best villain in the whole series

Buu is the best because he turns everyone into yummy cookies.

Cell has the most range, imo. He is an unsympathetic monster, especially during his first form, but he also desires competition and welcomes the fun that comes with it.

The Cell Games shows that well in him wanting to showcase a tournament against the strongest fighters while still having the end goal of destroying the world and enjoying the pleasure of putting fear and terror into everyone watching.

Frieza is a warlord who is secretly scared of Saiyans and Buu is just evil.

Frieza arc is the best because it is the emotional high point of the series. Goku becomes the legendary Super Saiyan and saves the universe while.avenging the race he only recently found out he belonged to.

They all have their pros. I do like the emotional weight of the Frieza saga, but I also like the creepiness of Cell. The Buu saga is fun because of the fusions.

I don't agree with this, because the way I look at it, Buu was a child who wasn't taught any differently. But Hercule reached him, and managed to change him. Granted, he then had a Jekyll and Hyde moment, but ultimately we got a good Buu out of the whole conflict.

Was the good Buu not due to him absorbing Grand Supreme Kai? Before that, and without good Buu being part of the whole, Buu is just evil incarnate.
