Actually the US invasion of Iraq was bad, as is the Russian invasion of Ukraine

 

I just don't think you're contributing much by acting as if you're above discussing the politics of the war. You only ever come into this thread to remind us that any debate about the war is bad and we should instead just listen to the one Ukrainian voice in here (who is pro-US and pro-NATO). I remember one guy on here who wouldn't criticise Obama's war crimes because as a white man he didn't feel comfortable criticising the first black president. It's a totally dead end form of identity politics that ultimately only benefits the ruling class

 

I mean, I practically never post in this thread, so I don't know if you're conflating me with someone else...

 

And I'm not telling anyone to stop debating anything. I just appreciate hearing from someone who is directly affected because I think it's an important voice to have. The most important, even.

 

But if you want me to get serious about it, no one here is "contributing" anything because no one here has any impact on what's happening in the world, so yeah, I do think the circular squabbles that happen in here are ultimately meaningless.

 

I mean in the grand scheme of things posts on a music discussion website are all pretty meaningless really and aren't contributing much of anything to anything, but I do think every once in a great while there are some ideas and viewpoints that bleed through and are exchanged back and forth a little bit. That does seem to happen the least of all in this thread through versus other threads that I frequent. I can say that I've learned a lot in other threads from the same people I tend to find myself bumping heads with in here - I think that's the reason I even try to engage sometimes.

 

I do agree with this, but it does also feel like the same conversations keep happening every day with no change and no path forward.

Also, I'm feeling salty.

 

That's why I dip out for weeks at a time, or just post around the arguments.

 

Honestly, this started because I made an idle comment about it being good to hear from someone in the Ukraine, and Immortal clearly took offense to it.

 

Someone from Ukraine who is Pro US and pro NATO at that, for some weird reason.

 

This is irrelevant to the point I was making. I was saying that if you want to develop a comprehensive analysis of the war in Ukraine, listening only to the (understandably) emotional response of someone currently living through it won’t aid you in achieving that. In this instance, the West’s massive responsibility is ignored/downplayed hence why I said it’s an approach that only benefits the ruling class in the US and absolves them of any wrongdoing. Which I know many posters in this thread are absolutely fine with, but I’m not

 

I don’t think anyone’s “fine” with it, they just think it’s lower on the list of things to concentrate on and find it a little weird that others are kind of obsessively concentrating on it while seemingly kinda shrugging off/ignoring/not really talking much about the country that is currently doing horrible things that we’d all bitch about the US doing.
