I agree with everything you’ve said….I was a HUGE TBS fan through Louder Now but fell out of the scene as I got older…now I see them as a nostalgia act and it is hard not to when they keep touring Tell All Your Friends and not releasing new music and basically all the reasons you mentioned….with that said music trends are cyclical and it does seem like there is a new emo/pop punk wave coming in…that along w a catchy new single and their viral video playing a backyard have renewed my interest in revisiting their cataloging and awaiting what’s next

 

Man you guys are such dicks for no reason. I found that post very valuable and felt it was interesting to me and probably others in this thread reading it. Would you rather have thousand more "New Again is bad/good" posts coupled with unfunny jokes and endless low-effort content like ranking? For once we're discussing something else on here.

 

Like of course we're all here because the music is what got us into this or that band first, but not every discussion has to be strictly about *that*. Everything surrounding it, whether that's the band's image, the place said act has in their scene or the wider music landscape, past and current "eras", or how they're marketing themselves like it was brought up on here... this is the kind of stuff that keeps me coming back here, and separates this place from like reddit or facebook/twitter comments under TBS' feed.

 

My feeling is that Greg's initial response, that he dislikes when posters attempt to discourse on what they feel is best for a band they have no insight into, is a perfectly valid and inoffensive comment to make.

After that everything went off the rails.

 

as someone who works in social media / marketing, i think what i meant by saying the marketing / pr thing is that in an online world where things can go viral in an instant (the house show) you have to adapt quickly.

given all the hype a few days ago it would have made sense in that moment to switch gears quickly and post a snippet of the song, a release date for the song or album, etc, just to ride the wave. just feels like a bit of a missed opportunity.

 

I think it would be fun if they went the opposite route and announce a tour only playing songs from New Again and the albums after. There's definitely a killer full headlining set in those 4 albums, it would be a great time.

Or bring Fred back and play WYWTB20, that's actually all I want.

Plus the subposting instead of quoting (or better, scrolling)... c'mon, I hope none of you talk to people like that IRL. It's so unnecessary.

That latter post is what I meant by going off the rails, but that first post? No, I honestly don't see anything offensive about that. Why is that offensive?

Homer's post outlined why he thought TBS was bad at marketing. Greg responding in that way is a commentary on the kind of post Homer was making, but it doesn’t strike me as an attack.

I don't know, that's just how I see it.

 

I’m fully self aware that I saw a ridiculous post and said I hated that type of post. They don’t know what is going on behind the scenes or why certain things are done or not done. It’s just so boring because it is really just about trying to show how clever someone is. And I don’t see why anyone would care about that.

 

It could also be that I'm just used to Greg being Greg.

Some people liked the post. Some didn't. That changes nothing, as I'll do it again whenever I have something to say. Hope to have new music soon that we can all discuss.

 

TBS should have their new album automatically downloaded onto everybody's iPhone U2 style
