I'm genuinely scared to visit because I feel like it might be too much my vibe and my wife is staunchly against NYC

  3. New york has a vibe for everyone I feel. My friend lives in Greenpoint and it's a great neighborhood

Lol I just don’t really feel the need to rate cities. I’ve found things to like in every city I’ve visited.

im sorry, truly mournful, over saying nashville, the city nicknamed "the country music capital of the world," has a music scene predominantly focused on country. ill reflect on this and do better. im writing a full apology to vince gill, the mayor of nashville, for this grievous error.

come the fuck on lol you don't have to be this big of a dweeb all the time

    Oh here’s a BIG one

    urban DC >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> touristy DC

The federal buildings and statues and memorials are old and massive and worth seeing once even if you’re not patriotic, but you are going to think DC is wayyy lamer than it is if that’s the only thing you go check out.

In reality DC has ridiculous amounts of international variety and upscale culture, amazing museums with soooo much content that even the locals haven’t seen it all, the food there is extremely good (which I do not say lightly as someone who has served in many restaurants over the last 12 years)… it’s got a hoppin club scene and cocktail lounge scene if that’s your thing - it’s not my thing and I still notice how badass it is… and 90% of it is charming and gorgeous neighborhoods that don’t really have the urban blight that other cities have (which says something about gentrification for sure - but it’s nice for traveling there lol).

DC is pretty snobby and classist though but even as a person who is poor and feels rejected there / doesn’t always have enough money to experience it, I still go when I can cause it’s super worth the experience.

Baltimore is way more comfortable and completely my vibe, but being in DC is a totally opposite Alice in Wonderland kind of experience that’s just a really nice change of pace from my usual routine

Unfortunately there is no argument I can provide my wife to say NYC > LA.

"You'd make the same but pay more and work at least twice as much" isn't a great selling point

Total opposite of me. I’d much rather live in Boston or Chicago and have sucky winters than live somewhere with just BRUTAL summers.

same. I’m not as annoying about cold weather as a lot of Floridians (if it’s under 60 I’m staying inside lookin ass mfs) but Baltimore is plenty cold for me. It snows and it gets humid, windy 25 degree days - all y’all can agree that that temperature already sucks and is uncomfortable without a huge jacket.

I don’t need to prove I’m tough to anyone, fuck weather below that

chicago is the absolute easiest city to make fun of but it's also the best big city in the country so it's fine

I enjoyed Chicago the 1 summer I went there. Hold a top score in one of their barcades.

    didn’t much care for Philly.

philly sucks. apologies to @Dinkleberg. my mom, etc. it’s simply one of the dirtiest and gross cities i’ve ever been to and all the areas of the city you’d want to see are spaced so far apart that it’s a nightmare to get anywhere you wanna go

That’s not what you said lol. You said “only”, as if Nashville and NOLA don’t also have more good metal / punk/ R&B / blues etc whatever the fuck bands than 90% of the other major cities in the country. This is actually something I wish more people understood about how local music works:

Sure. Originally, Nashville was based in country and originally NOLA was based in jazz. Sure, the cities capitalized on that and market those things heavily as the reason people come visit.

But those histories inspired the 2-3 generations of musicians since then to branch out and carve their own niche. The culture of creating music in general is stronger there, the music schools are more prestigious, the local music industry has a higher bar for what an acceptably good band with an acceptably strong following is. So you end up with a lot more talent and a lot more diversity overall, than a city that isn’t known for anything like that. it’s literally not just country and jazz music. It’s more of everything and a much higher percentage of the musicians are REALLY GOOD

The first time I went was with two daily runners who are both in crazy shape and have massive legs. They insisted on walking EVERYWHERE. I wanted to die l

these criticisms are fair. I really like Philly but it’s definitely very rough around the edges. It’s a relatively chaotic city
