If you have like two days in a city you're certainly going to go to the greatest hits. It's only if you have extended time or repeat visits can you explore more culture and what not.

I never said that. What I’m saying is you can’t judge a city by its touristy things.

Some touristy things are authentic - for example, yes people in Maryland really do eat crab with Old Bay on special occasions lol. Fenway Park is an authentic Boston tradition and Boston continues to be one of the strongest baseball-loving cities. But stuff like, deep dish pizza being the iconic food of Chicago… Chicago’s food scene is way better than deep dish pizza lol

Eh. I’ve come to realize over time the “greatest hits” are often overrated. So I do try to talk to people I know who have been there and seek out recommendations off the beaten path, even for short trips

 

Saying that New Orleans only does one cuisine well is a wild take

It has some of the best Vietnamese food in the country

 

Like, for example, Seattle has attractions but I had more fun in north Seattle which doesn’t have nearly as many of those sorts of things

 

Yeah I feel like I'd love Chicago and Minny but both my parents said those winters broke them and they're Omaha/"Springfield" and those places get too cold for me as it is

 

That's you though and not 99% of people vacationing.

 

Hollywood Walk of Fame was a deeply unpleasant place to be.

I wanted to leave Bemidji in October and it hadnt even snowed yet. I was miserable for half the year.

When people say “x city is overrated” a lot of times they are talking about the touristy areas… which are naturally overrated because they’re such big money making opportunities that capitalism turns them into a caricature of what they once were.

Case in point - country artists on Broadway in Nashville are just playing top 40 songs and none of that is the original country music Broadway was initially famous for

 

I regret that the only times I’ve been to NY were to Manhattan. I wanna see what makes Brooklyn & Queens so awesome.
