    Player’s Log:
Dead Space Remake was awesome. It was a little repetitive, but I loved the guns and the story was cool.

What other PS4/5 survival horror or even action horror games are good?
I’ve played Alan Wake Remaster, RE remake 2-4, RE 7 and 8, and now this. How’s Evil Within, Dying Light, or A Plague Tale?

None of those will hit the spot. (though I do love Evil Within and Plague Tale: Requiem a lot.)

The Evil Within 2 is way better than it has any right to be. Been a while since I played it, but highly recommend if you’re looking for survival horror/action blend, and are ok with a lot of the horror living in set pieces.

Player's Log: Trails In The Sky

So I finished the Prologue, including all available sidequests. I have a couple of handy walkthroughs to help me not miss anything and keep a running checklist on what I need for achievements.

I also am totally using a trainer too, for what basically amounts to infinite of both kinds of currency. I had intended to use it for infinite health too, but that apparently doesn't work anymore. Neither does the infinite CP, but it at least sets my CP to max every time I enter a battle, so I've been one-shotting a lot of enemies anyway.

I'm enjoying the story so far and I was a little surprised when I realized that Estelle is technically the main character and not Joshua, because the former is who you actually are playing as. I don't know that it means much as far as a swerve goes, but it's an interesting wrinkle, considering their stereotypes. I mean, Joshua screams "stock light novel protagonist".

Anyway, if I have to make a complaint, it's that the achievements for the game are annoying because they basically boil down to "do everything, get everything". Especially since the one for getting all the chests also requires you to try to open them a second time to get a witty one-liner telling you the chest is empty. So tedious.

I do however like how cooking is handled in the game. You eat something, you learn the recipe. And then as long as you have the ingredients, you can make that item at any time. It's nice and straightforward after how Zelda handled cooking. I feel like developers try so hard to gamify everything that they don't stop to think if they should.

  6. Have you tried Returnal? It’s a roguelite so it’s quite different from those listed in terms of progression but it definitely has horror elements.

The Amnesia series is something else to check out. I haven’t played it yet but the new entry is getting very positive reviews

    RETURNAL was an option?

    Hell fucking yeahhhh

  8. I misread the post but I do think Returnal and Amnesia are worth consideration.

The Evil Within games are also worth checking out if ya dig the later RE games/remakes.

Returnal is always worth a consideration ;)

Maybe stating the obvious but you should absolutely play Dead Space 2 even if it's an older game at this point. I know some take it over the original... (though I don't, but it's very close and they are both all timers for me)

Got back to back second place in Fortnite tonight. Once solo (and lord were my hands sweaty) and once with a squad.

Still having trouble logging into Apex so I guess I have to contact EA support.

Alien: Isolation. Best survival horror game in space ever and this is coming from a stan of Dead Space.

To be fair, it takes time to get the flow off but it is a brutal game and difficult to master. Highly addictive once it clicks though.

It is hands down, one of my favorite games of all time.

I have never felt palpable fear in a game until I played Alien: Isolation. Hiding in a locker and knowing it’s literally walking by is terrifying.

I played it in VR, hid in a locker, an Android found me and I yelled so loud I woke the entire house up.

Horror is a weird game genre to judge. It might be the only genre where most of its effectiveness comes from its graphical tech. Personally I think System Shock 2 is the greatest horror game to take place in space but Alien Isolation is scarier only really because its graphics are newer, making it look more realistic, which means its horror feels more real.

What I'm saying is they should remake System Shock 2 since they already remade System Shock. And that's despite the fact that I think all these recent remakes and remasters are getting dangerously close to cultural vandalism.
