I’m always oblivious to everything so learning today they are back, at least for an EP, was a fun surprise.

Sorry if it’s been talked about to death here or elsewhere but I’m firmly in the camp of bands not saying they’re done or broken up. Not a hill I’ll die on or really care about but artists should just not do this.

Maybe their companies or behind the scenes folks like it because it boosts streams or merch purchases (and maybe some bands themselves like to announce things for that reason too) in the moment but how many bands actually stay gone so what’s the point lol. Anberlin says hello from their own EP released this year after breaking up.

I don’t think FOB, or Gaslight Anthem or other bands with long times between albums or tours or whatnot have ever said they’re broken up and with so many that come back it just seems like a “why bother saying that?” kind of thing since rarely it seems to stick. You don’t want to release an album for 10 years? Ok! Sure that will suck but don’t have to say you’re breaking up or on hiatus but I get that fans, family could become annoying after awhile constantly asking if you don’t say anything but then just say “not sure, who knows”.

  2. I'd say over the course of covering music for two decades ... most bands that break up, stay broken up. The number of bands that break up and never make music again definitely far out number the few that do end up reuniting.

Anyway, some cool tid bits here: Yellowcard, 'Ocean Avenue' | The Album Story
When Yellowcard broke up in 2017, they really meant it. A combination of declining ticket sales and seismic shifts in the music industry meant that it was no longer feasible to continue as a band, something vocalist William Ryan Key is candid about now. “We decided to call a time of death for the band because we had a nice surge and a lot of success right at the beginning,” he says. After touring hard for several years and releasing a handful of records, in 2011, the band signed to Hopeless Records. For the next four or five years, each year saw the numbers go down. “It’s taboo to talk about it, but at the end of the day we are trying to make a living. This is our job. When you’re not making the money that you need to, you have to take that into account and we did. It just didn’t look good.”

Why mislead people intentionally by pretending a band is still together when they're not? You realize how little sense this makes, right?

Like, let's pretend a band doesn't announce they've broken up and that they're doing their last ever tour. Do you know how many people will miss their chance to see the band one last time? Who gives a fuck if the band gets back together later? Like, holding that against the band is so fucking weird.

I'd much rather spend the money on a concert and have a great time and be pleasantly surprised years later when I have the opportunity to see them again rather than not spend the money and potentially never see them at all.

Sorry, I know you're not intending to die on this hill, but this is what TV Tropes calls Insane Troll Logic.

  4. Chris Carrabba is singing.

  5. The songs that start with “H” are my absolute favorites on this but obviously the entire EP spanks.

Starting to notice some really nice bass riffs the more I listen to this.

Also, Hiding In The Light's chorus is one of the best/catchiest they've ever done. Stuck in my head forever. Also also, I NEED to see Sean and Mendez perform the dueling solo live.

I said it in the album thread too but this EP absolutely encapsulates everything that makes this band great; I really feel like all of their albums are sonically represented here, which is an incredible feat with only five songs.

I'm still just so glad these guys are back and I'll take whatever they want to give us... but come on, more soon please

They added a ton of tickets for $40-50 including pit for tonight’s show.

Some of the Andrew fans I talked with yesterday at the show said they were going tonight, like me. One of them told me that and I thought it was sold out? I guess they released more tickets. It’s gonna be sick.

Severe thunderstorms expected right before the show starts tonight. Cool cool cool cool cool

    also,
Thank you for this. Mentioned it in passing to my wife, mainly as a curiosity because I thought it was sold out, and she went and got us a major seat upgrade. Still no pit bc our old bones need seats now, but closer, more centered, and now on the aisle haha

I’m tempted to buy a seat ticket to chill during the openers and then move to the pit for Yellowcard haha probably won’t, but would be nice.

Well, I was gonna be there in time for my early entry (like 15 minutes). But Florida drivers like to crash into each other and I95 north is a shit show with a 40+ minute delay.

On the way in last night the exit from I10 to 95 was closed. Dunno if that effects you today but hopefully not

Google maps seems to indicate multiple crashes. At a crawl. Start and stop. The worst.

My ETA has now gone from the initial delay to 6:15 to 6:45. Somehow it gets worst despite having moved a few miles through it.
