FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

Cali isn't perfect for sure but he did what they needed to get their momentum going with a new member. But his production on Bored To Death was perfect. I love all the sounds on that track.

NINE I have no complaints. He did great. Really think just the first two Used albums are his only better work

I mean in terms of the charts I remember or thought it performed decently well? Can’t really remember haha

I know the general reaction was pretty lukewarm to it and it definitely took Mark back. It was funny they released Generational Divide (a 1 minute fast crusher “is it better? Are we better now?) right after lol - even if not intentional.

So after some digging it looks like it got pretty good reviews and decent radio play/charting, but the fans rejected it. I don't really know how you quantify subjective opinions from fans. My memory was "wow this song STINKS" when I first heard it and I have never been able to come around on it. Different strokes though. Nine rips as a record and it is rad they swung for the fences with ideas.

BIOMY is the perfect example of why the Skiba era didn't work for me...Trying too hard to write a "blink" song about staying young forever. I think it was in press for the California cycle where Feldy talks about trying to make it sound like "blink" too.

I love Skiba and ALK3 and appreciate him stepping into the band but they should've just wrote whatever they wanted and not tried to put in a blink box if that makes any sense...

I mean, BIOMY is truly the only song of that type in Nine. It sticks out. The rest of the album rips and very much feels like the guys finding their own sound as that trio.

Yup completely agree. My issues with California don’t stop me from enjoying it. BTD and SOOHM are perfect blink summer singles.

It’s funny because I love Tim Pagnotta/Sugarcult and was super excited to hear he was working with them but I feel like Happy Days ans BIOMY are probably my least favorite tracks on the album.

Looked into some press from the writing recording time and it's wild the majority of the songs started as drum parts from Travis. Also, The cowritten songs seem to mostly be Mark going into the studio with those dudes and writing run-and-gun style. The Skiba songs where he takes the lead and clearly drove the songs are amazing. I think the parts where he is adding a verse here and there are kind of weak. It feels markedly different than on Cailfornia. PTG sticks out as an amazing song that dips on Matt's verse.

Love the BTS lore surrounding NINE. Such an oddball moment in time for the band. I bet we would have gotten that EP / deluxe release that padded out the edges of that album cycle if COVID hadn't halted everything for them. Would love Matt's hot takes on California and NINE in a long-form podcast interview somewhere in the future.

Funny side effect of 1 year of just Edging with no further releases has been an obsessive revisit of Neighborhoods through NINE for me.

There are many songs on Nine that are great examples of them doing exactly that.

I've actually grown more fond of California recently, and less fond of Nine.
But I don't understand all the criticism that BIOMY got, except for the fact that the production quality seemed more muddy than the rest of the album.

  20. Seriously. I was so pissed when they ruined that moment for them. That song's top 5 on California.

I never understood the love for Rabbit Hole or The Only Thing That Matters. Songs are fine but I’m totally indifferent to them.

At least I can say I got to see them play Darkside one of the 18 times they played it according to setlist.fm.

The Only Thing That Matters is the only song on California that sounds like classic blink to me, so that's why I like it. Not a fan of Rabbit Hole
