Damn man.

 

Man, this sucks. This band was one of my introductions into punk music when I heard 911 for Peace on a Take Action comp and I feel like I’ve grown up with their music. They seemed like such a solid bunch of guys who practiced what they preached. I’m absolutely disgusted to hear Justin abused his place of power in the the worst way. This scene is so goddamn toxic and I hate that this stuff keeps coming out over and over.

 

Not on the Anti-Flag subreddit. Dead quiet there. Where’s this being discussed?

the situation with steve was a lil different where he knew his ex-fiancé/wife whatever she was to him going to out him for the videos he had on his computer, he told the band, he left and then the news hit the fan after the fact. nothing happened with that years down the road either. last i saw he was selling all his nfg gear and just living his life. having videos of cam girls on your computer is WAY different than rape. this is all sorts of fucked up! i commend kristina for coming forward though, took a lot for her. i watched the whole video. terrible stuff

He didn’t leave, he was kicked out when the band was informed of his actions. He was very angry about it.

He was allegedly masturbating in front of minors on omegle and was in possession of child pornography. He was convicted in 2021.

Both situations are absolutely heinous

grew up on both bands, but im glad steve's shit didn't ruin nfg and they could go on without him. they are one of my all time favorite bands. i still am shocked about this AF news.

 

This band was a huge part of my formative teens years. I'm hattered about the news and my heart goes out to the victims.

If this has been going on for decades, I wonder if the other members were aware on some level. That thought makes my stomach turn more.

 

I would give the rest of them the benefit of the doubt for now. It’s a really large assumption to make that they were somehow involved or were even aware.

 

The fact that the band has disbanded so suddenly (i.e. without a plan) suggests, to me, that the others are finding out at the same time as everyone else and reacted accordingly.

Reminds me of what happened with Mighty Mighty Bosstones last year.

God, in between this and Rammstein, 2023 has been a terrible year for abuses of power from people I respected and would not have expected.

 

This one feels makes me feel things differently than a lot of the allegations in this scene. Profiting off being a feminist for years, “creating a safe place for women” after making them feel safe, then taking advantage of them. This whole thing almost devalues “punk” as a genre for me. Genuinely thought of anti-flag as the “good guys” for about 20 years. Gutted.

At this rate, I’m now waiting for the news to break that Greg Graffin is mormon.

 

I mean, regarding Greg Graffin there is the webcam sex chat incident circa 2005/2005 with screenshots.

From what i remember the details were murky and the controversy kinda just died off over time.

Whats funny is that if the band didn't do a total internet deletion, I'm sure no one wouldve really caught onto the podcast and the allegations. At best, just some rumor, but it would never get the traction its currently getting.

 

Well yeah, that probably lends credence to the idea that the rest of the band members just weren't really aware and decided to do the right thing as opposed to what most other bands would do and deny the allegations to just keep doing what they're doing. Sucks to say, but assuming these and the other things coming out are even halfway true, this is really the best course the band as a whole could have taken

 

My guess is someone in the band had access, said fuck this we are done, and just immediately deleted everything.

 

I'm sure Chris will say something soon/eventually. If he truly didn't really know most of this, it gonna be hard to come up with the words here.

 

I believe Chris #2 ran a lot of their socials.

 

My theory is that Chris #2 somehow found out about the allegations via the podcast on his own and maybe confronted Justin about it. There must’ve been some sort of falling out after which lead to Chris deleting of all their socials. If Chris also deleted his Instagram, I’d think he was the one behind all their social media going out.


(I know I’m a bit late to this thread. This whole situation is such a bummer. As someone who loved this type of punk music in their teens I always had a big respect for Anti-Flag even though I never got fully into them. It really sucks finding out someone you think has good values is actually a scumbag behind closed doors)

 

This is second only to JL in terms of gut punch revelation pain for me. At least with JL it made sense in hindsight but I doubt that'll ever be the same here. Or maybe I'm just ignorant, idk.

This band helped shape the morality of so many people, myself included. That's a whole new level of 'intimate betrayal' that'll be tough to process. Anti-Flag ruled so hard, this sucks.
