I'm ready for the next pre-season game because I badly want a bigger sample of what this team looks like now. It's incredibly hard to judge anything during these games but it was just refreshing to see some of the players shine. It's been 3 years of rigid tactics that make it hard for players to really express their talents. Despite actually losing the game, I hope the team can keep building on the positive performance and maybe we end up keeping a couple players that were previously thought to be leaving.

where would i be if i was my brain Prestigious

Yup. The contract expired on June 30th. Pretty sure they were happy to be done with it since he was so inconsistent on the field.

So now Suarez is close to a deal with Miami. All these guys teaming up will help the league and all that. But it's kinda shitty how Miami is able to pull all of this off yet Charlotte had to walk a tight rope to sign a 32 year old midfielder I've never heard of because of salary cap restrictions.

It's even worse because Inter Miami has already been penalized for roster violations in past years..it makes zero sense.

  5. Why are Newcastle selling ASM just to buy Harvey Barnes?

Selling ASM is so bizarre to me.

ASM couldn't/can't stay fit to save his life. I know it's ruthless but it makes sense.

  8. I’ve done two FPL squads just to see how big of a difference a team can be with Haaland compared to without and I have to say the money goes a long way. But do you really want to be the guy stuck without him in your team when he goes nuts again? You basically have to decide if you want to find budget midfield or budget forwards. I personally think there’s a ton of value to be found in midfielders but people may feel differently.

ASM has no end product and lots of injuries.

ASM is a great player to have if you are mid table or below and need someone to pull a moment of genius on the break occasionally. But he's absolutely not suited to a team with serious ambitions at the top of the table in the PL. Kind of like Nicolas Pepe but even more extreme.

    Oh?

  19. I haven't read the comments yet but I can already hear the shouts of "no ambition if this is the CB we're buying"

  20. @John Lopiano you're a Blackburn fan, correct? What can you tell me about Ashley Phillips?

  21. I'm bad with player comparisons because it always feels wrong to say "he's the next (insert name here)" especially with how many comps someone like Phil Jones got with no returns lol but Phillips is like a true modern center back in terms of his mold. He's tall (I think he's like 6-4) and strong, but I think his biggest asset is his ability to pass into space. He finds midfielders so well from the back. He has some decent pace too so he likes to get forward into the attack. He's just very raw and I think it's going to take some time for him to adapt. He's getting a ton of Van Dijk comparisons in terms of the ability to play both in the air and with his feet.

He hasn't been so consistent either so I think it's a good buy if you can develop him enough. I think he's probably two years away from being very impactful but it's still a good signing for you.

Just another player coming through our academy that we can't keep and develop ourselves because we're dirt poor with shit owners. Nothing new.

isn't the entire MLS approach to signing international players outdated and absurd? i read an athletic article the other day about how the hoops they've had to jump through. it seems like the league rules are set up as a huge impediment to bringing in quality players from overseas.

  23. MrCon

I was trying to describe myself to someone

I'll be sad to see ASM go if we're sending him on his way (some earlier social media posts had set the rumour mill swirling anyway), but I think you could see the writing on the wall earlier this year. He's struggled for fitness this year and I do wonder if he's worth the time to try letting him get back up to speed, but you can also see that Howe has really tried to get him playing in some sort of useful, consistent way and that's just not ASM. The chaotic way he goes about the game just doesn't suit the sort of system Howe tries to cultivate. At least, not without him seriously upping his goals and assists.
