Philips isn't exactly a well trusted TV brand at this point, but at $260 (after Target Circle coupon) for a 50", I'm not sure you could go wrong and I can't imagine it's any worse than any of the other low end options. Not much in the way of reviews out there, though. It's a 2023 model.

I'm genuinely considering it as a dedicated Series S screen for my office, but I probably shouldn't.

 

That’s how I’ve moved. Got two Lg tv’s, a Lg washer and now Lg fridge. Probably never going back. I don’t mind paying for premium quality. And Lg hasn’t let me down yet.

 

Just got a new LG fridge and the guy next door just got a new Samsung. Both the same price. Will report back annually to update y’all on the competition.

 

If I were to buy an LG C2 series at Best buy... Would I be dumb to not buy geek squad protection? How much of a risk is burn in? $1100 is a lot of money, I don't really wanna spend a couple hundred more

 

Look at Costco if you have a membership. They have the best protection plans. And usually the cheapest price.

Personally, I wouldn't bother. I've had extended warranties on my TVs in the past, OLED included, and I've never needed to use it.

The burn in hype around OLEDs is not nothing, but I also think it's pretty drastically overblown, especially with the newer models. I still own and use a 65" E6 from 2016. It's got over 12,000 hours on the panel and not a smidge of burn in. I've been careful not to leave static images on the screen for long periods of time, but I also have never not done or watched something on it out of fear.

The new models are significantly less likely to experience burn in, and if you just use some general common sense, I suspect you'll be just fine. My 77" G2 is about a year old now, is drastically brighter, has less aggressive ABL, and I've yet to even see any noticeable image retention on it. The C2 has very similar guts.

Well it was very stressful getting the stand on and carrying it across my apartment but I officially have my LG C2 set up and it's fucking gorgeous

Even got the universal remote to work with my Vizio optical sound bar and Shield TV, pretty neat to only need one remote.

 

Enjoy! Once you've gone OLED, I find it incredibly difficult to ever even consider going back.

Anyone with an LG OLED... Have you ever had to move and transport the TV? How did you safely do so? Not moving for another year most likely, but it is a scary thought lmao.

I feel like keeping the box would be the safest bet, but it's massive and I live in a small apartment so it's not like I have a basement or attic I could keep the box in

 

I moved my 65" when we bought a house last year, but, I did have the luxury of hanging onto the box and having it in storage. Both my boxes are in my basement now.

Home Depot sells TV boxes. I'm not sure how high up in size they go. I'm sure Lowes does, as well. Amazon and U-Haul also have them. Most come with some generic styrofoam padding that you can finagle into place to keep it safe. That's probably your best bet, coupled with a bed sheet or other bubble wrap for safe keeping inside the box.

Last resort, you could always wrap a bedsheet &/or plastic wrap around it for protection, remove the base and lay it flat in the back of a car (if your seats can flatten out.) Obviously, I wouldn't do this for any substantial drive, but it would more than likely be just fine for like a cross-town move.

 

Man the upgrade from a 43 inch to a 55 inch is such a game changer, nevermind how beautiful an OLED looks. It's great for my terrible eyesight haha.

I just watched Infinity War in IMAX enhanced Dolby Vision last night on my LG C2 and holy shit it looked so good. Still in awe with this TV vs my previous $300 one haha.

 

Congrats! Glad you’re loving the C2. These LG products are just top notch. Making me want to upgrade my bedroom 42” Vizio to a LG 55” oled or 48” I should have jumped when they were on sale for like 799

Is filmmaker mode on LG OLEDs a gimmick? How can the TV assume that *every* filmmaker in existence intended to have a yellowish hue to their films?

 

Filmmaker mode just disables any motion processing gimmicks like smoothing, motion blur, sharpness, etc. and places the TV in whichever mode most closely resembles the filmmaker's intent. So it's not a "gimmick", per say, but it's not really making any magic either. It's not something you couldn't fine tune or replicate yourself with similar settings.

When you refer to a yellowish hue - what setting do you normally watch your content on? TVs in "standard" or "vivid", which are often what stores set their sets to, and a lot of people at home, are horribly inaccurate and way too cold. But, if you're not used to seeing it that way, it does appear incredibly yellow until you grow used to it.

 

I tend to watch in power savings or vivid mode and it looks great to me, filmmaker looks yellowish to both me and my fiance. That's fair though, I guess I'm too used to it not being in that mode

 

Yeah, Vivid is essentially taking every color and pumping the living crap out of it. It makes everything "pop", so to speak, but it's not at all what things are supposed to look like. At the end of the day, though, it's your TV, and you can like whatever you like!

I will tell you, it took me a week or two to actually get used to using movie/filmmaker/warm (whatever the manufacturer wants to call it), and it absolutely did look incredibly yellow at first, but now, I can't stand anything else. It's funny, once your eyes do adjust to it, you'll think other modes look blue.
