That is the main reason. Another big reason is that they can make changes if executives or focus testing tells them to make a change. It is all so ugly.

It definitely hurts the performances. You have so little context for how your character would act in their surroundings.

I remember reading once that Kubrick would fill drawers and cabinets with appropriate items for his films, even if the characters didn't open the drawers. It was about trying to recreate as much realism as possible.

 

Good point here about how the AMPTP is trying to pull the same "we just don't know enough about what this will yet be so let's wait" ruse they tried in the '07 strike.

Just watched Polite Society, and yeah, it ruled. Very, very fun movie. Pretty much the whole cast committed to their roles exactly as much as they needed to. Highly recommended if you want a silly, cool, fun movie and haven't gotten around to it yet.

 

Agreed, and I feel like they trailered it poorly.

One of the greatest shows ever. It is worth watching with subtitles to catch all of the language.
