Instead of hating on Zero, you should be focusing on building a Time Machine and showing 9 year old me where I could buy that Zero shirt Billy wore in press photos. I wanted that shirt so bad and I feel like I walked by it in the window at Hot Topic once but then I never saw it again.

I had an IRL conversation with a hardcore Swiftie the other day and it was....kind of chilling? directly encountering this level of parasocial connection was new to me...talking about the codes and easter eggs in her songs, and talking up her business acumen, and stating various "facts" about her dating life / various exes with the authority of a Wikipedia entry....I've met a lot of passionate fans of artists but this was something else entirely

which leads me to my actual bad opinion: encouraging fans to treat your lyrics, music and marketing like it's QAnon for your personal life in the actual era of QAnon-style internet brain rot is maybe a bad idea??

Tbh my least favorite thing about Taylor swift is how she downplays how much she encouraged the speculation on her love life. Now she just criticizes it as misogyny and how it doesn't happen to men, but if anyone literally names who the song is about, made album liner notes hinting about it, talked about her breakup publicly multiple times including national television, did a promo where she literally said "this time I'm naming names" etc they would get speculation too. Of course there is a ton of misogyny around Taylor but I have a hard time with that specific piece because she has never copped to encouraging the parasocial behavior. When pressed about her publicly starting beef with Katy perry she played dumb and tried to minimize her role and I'm just like sis if you're gonna do it either own it or don't. It's kinda lame to do it and then backtrack or blame the media and public.

Anyway, clearly I'm like a Wikipedia entry on Taylor too lmao

I'm always like it's kinda weird that I'm not a diehard fan or anything but I like know her middle name and the names of her cats haha

but yeah she definitely finds the whole easter egg treasure hunt thing cute

I think it's one of those things that was probably fun at first but when she caught on to how much fans loved it she dialed it up 1000 and now everyone is extra about it. I hate scavenger things like that tho I'm too lazy and inpatient.

I don’t care about the treasure hunt parts. That seems all in good fun. But the fact that these psychos actively attack exes they assume they know the story with, critics, etc is very dangerous

Really hate how many pop hits right now are just sampling the most obvious parts of 90s and 2000s hits and doing nothing creative with it.

I’ve been saying this. People used to say the exact same thing about 90s Bad Boy hits that people love now, haha.

I don’t buy into that argument. It would be the same if Diddy and co were sampling songs like YMCA, Rock Me Amadeus or Agadoo. The songs people are sampling these days seem like they’re trying to make novelty songs cool when Blue or I’m Too Sexy will never be good no matter who samples them.

  22. Zilla

I feel like those complaints were more just trying to discredit hip-hop as a genre, since that’s where most of the samples were being used in the ‘90s. Though I know real heads were going after Bad Boy for their reliance on it, but at least some of them were creative (Like “Alone In The Ring” in “Victory.”)

Pop songs use “Praise You,” “Blue,” “What Is Love?” and “Better Off Alone” in such a copy and paste way that it’s like PauLo said, not so much a song, but a novelty. Not saying that it’s anything new, but it’s super prevalent right now.

Swifties are a cult and Taylor herself is harmful to many people for not denouncing/taking more of stand against parasocial relationships.
