Lights & Sounds….YES

 

Can't tell if satire or not

 

WYTTSY is way too high, especially considering what they ranked below it.

I would definitely put it below Paper Walls (their best album challenged only by Southern Air), the self-titled, and Lift a Sail and it's probably about even with OFTK.

Put Paper Walls at #3 and I'm fine with this

 

Skipping "Grey" is instant jail time. That song flows so well with the others around it

 

There's admittedly a large amount of nostalgia embedded in there, but that doesn't change my analysis.

My opinion on WYTTSY has always been that it's a good collection of good to great songs but doesn't coalesce as well as an album for me, it feels more like a compilation.

 

I’m sure I’ll be in the majority here but I 100% agree about Lights & Sounds being their best album. Skipping Grey is a sin though.

Top 3 for me are:

Lights and Sounds
Ocean Avenue
When You’re Through Thinking…/Southern Air (these two constantly flip back and forth for me)

 

The Light Up The Sky hate on that list was weird

 

This is one band I can't really rank (at least Ocean Avenue on).

I constantly interchange Paper Walls, Southern Air, WYTTSY and Self-titled as my favorite. But then also, Ocean Avenue is the one I have the most nostalgia for and only "avoid" it now because I overplayed it back in the day. But then also, on the right day, Lights and Sounds and Lift a Sail can be my favorite and have some of my favorite stretches of songs in the whole discography.

 

I can't stand "Light Up the Sky" so that checks out for me

So excited to see them on Saturday for the second time! But really the first time. I saw them in 2012 at Warped Tour in Shakopee, MN. I nearly passed out 3-4 songs into their set due to dehydration and needed to get water ASAP so I missed half the set and missed Only One, Ocean Ave, all those, so I was super bummed. Got to meet them before the show but I was super dehydrated and tried to make a joke but I was not feeling well so I fucked up that opportunity lol.

Looking forward to Saturday!!

the album artwork is so epic for that band but when i listened to it i wasn't impressed. it sounded like owl city but more rock? i couldn't get into it.

 

my guess would be because it was released as the albums lead single and didn't do anything for the band or the album. label stopped promoting it and then they broke up, i do however enjoy the tune!

 

People really gotta let go of things they have no idea what they're talking about.

Lights and Sounds at No. 1 is absolutely the correct call.

 

Imagine caring about Ben Harper in 2023. Weird.

 

I don't know how you got that from listening to them, but if it's not your bag, it's fine.

Frankly, I'd say they're similar to other bands in their genre (Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace) but have more of an electronic component and are very concept-oriented in their album creation.

 

I just found the podcast interesting since I never heard that story lol… I’ll delete the post, but don’t act like all of this is information everyone already knows

 

I didn’t say anything about it lol, I just posted a link to a public podcast that I stumbled upon when looking up stuff about the band. There’s a better way to give someone a heads up about something like that then the way you responded with a ton of attitude and condescension.

 

You don’t have to delete it, buts it’s very old news for this thread. And giving him a pass as a friendly stoner when we know it was a group decision just came across as odd. Not everyone knows everything. Of course. Just a friendly reminder that the search function is your friend.

 

You said it's the story of how Ben got kicked out (it's really not, and I say that as the person Ben called on the phone soon after it happened) and what happened with LP was similar (it wasn't). And it's been talked about to death for like two decades at this point. I'm so so so soooooo over it.

 

I mean that’s what they talk about the whole episode, and i understand now that the information in the episode as false. But not everyone knows all the fine details or has kept up with true band as well as you have! It’s fine to call it out for being untrue but there’s certainly a more chill way of doing so.
