  2. Copypasting from the Article Discussion thread. For the first time I have an ongoing list I'm updating each time there's a 2023 release I love so much I consider it an AOTY contender, and so far it looks like this:

Caroline Polachek - Desire, I Want to Turn Into You
    Paramore - This Is Why
Ava Max - Diamonds & Dancefloors
    Kelela - Raven
Spangle call Lilli line - Ampersand
Kali Uchis - Red Moon in Venus
Rebecca Black - Let Her Burn
    Skrillex - Quest for Fire
    Daughter - Stereo Mind Game
    Tim Hecker - No Highs
Avalon Emerson - & the Charm
    Snakehips - never worry
    yunè pinku - BABYLON IX
    Kesha - Gag Order
    Aural Vampire -
    Phoxjaw - notverynicecream
UJU - The Sun Is in Our Eyes
    Ehla - Pause
    Amaarae - Fountain Baby
    Night Tapes - Perfect Kindness
    8485 - Personal Protocol
    Donna Missal - Revel

It's been an interesting year for music. Not many of my faves are releasing album and if they are, these haven't been AOTY great. That means I have more opportunities to go out of my comfort zone by checking artists in other genres and who are less popular, stumbling upon hidden gems in the process.

Fall Out Boy - So Much (for) Stardust

    Lauren Daigle - Lauren Daigle
Thrice - The Artist in the Ambulance Revisited
    100 gecs - 10,000 gecs
    Paramore - This is Why
The National - First Two Pages of Frankenstein
The Japanese House - In the End It Always Does
Rebecca Black - Let Her Burn

That’s a pretty solid start to the year music-wise for me. Don’t need much more to have a real good EOTY list. No good at paying attention to upcoming shit, but the new singles by Olivia Rodrigo and Taking Back Sunday are both real good imo.

  8. Looking at all these lists reminds me that I’ve only listened to Paramore, Foo Fighters, Lies, and FOB’s new albums. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of any other 2023 albums I’ve listened to, let alone also really liked haha.

My top ten is probably something like this:

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit - Weathervanes
    Wednesday - Rat Saw God
Narrow Head - Moments of Clarity
    Ruston Kelly - The Weakness
White Reaper - Asking for a Ride
Yo La Tengo - This Stupid World
    Sigur Rós - ÁTTA
    boygenius - the record
    Fucked Up - One Day
    Margo Price - Strays

But really it's the first two albums way out in front, with Wednesday and Isbell essentially tied for my favorite, and then everything else is pretty equal. Great year so far!
