I would have been much more satisfied if Indy was allowed to stay in the past.

Just watched the Young Indiana Jones where Indy's mom has an affair with famous Opera composer Giacomo Puccini in Florence. lol I can't believe this show was for kids.

Well yeah that's obvious; you'd think though with Spielberg and Lucas still being involved, that a script would be written and a use of practical effects would be emphasized, that would get this film as close to the magic of those first films as possible. Yet, they couldn't make it happen. People adore those films, so you'd assume Disney and Lucasfilm would aim to get Dial of Destiny as close to the level of quality of those films as possible.

I'm sorry, we're talking about George Lucas, right?

Yeah, both him and Spielberg are listed as Executive Producer

I honestly don’t know how anyone, going back to the announcement of a fifth Indiana Jones film, could have expected anything better than “3rd to 4th best Indiana Jones film”

Okay, I just wanted to make sure you were suggesting that George Lucas, a man who has revised his own movies on multiple occasions thanks to the advent of CGI and also made the CGI-laden prequels, would be a huge proponent of practical effects. I wasn't sure.

Also think we may be overestimating the input of executive producer George Lucas

It just makes me think what Disney was ultimately hoping to achieve with this film, like financial success or high critics ratings, neither of which this film will apparently achieve. It should do better than Crystal Skull, but only marginally.

money. they wanted money. they wouldn't have paid Harrison Ford like $20 million if they didn't think the movie was going to make like $600 million

edit to add: I'm sorry Ferrari but I don't think it's that complicated and you're overthinking it lol

This is not doing better than Crystal Skull financially. No chance after the disastrous opening weekend numbers haha

Also, I wonder why Indy would escape the Nazis in the late 30's (Last Crusade), profess how much he hates them, and yet in 1944, in a very hot & active war zone, travel into Germany, a place full of Nazis, to retrieve that lance?

Executive producer is often a credit just for money purposes. Long-running franchises have to give credit for the series creators even long after they've had no contact. Lucas had a lot of negative things to say about the new Star Wars movies so I doubt they asked for his input.

Movies like this kinda bite cuz they have no vision except to imitate their predecessors. there’s no indication of any of James Mangold’s influences or preuccupations, there’s no inspiration on the screen. when the assignment is ‘make a movie that seems like those guys made it’ it’s probably gonna be pretty dumb
