Finished SP3! Yumi and Painter are great additions to the Cosmere and Hoid and Design and all the other cosmere connections were exciting to see. Can’t help but think this make a great anime.

Wow. Had my heart torn apart and put back together by this book. Incredible stuff. Can't wait to read it again when I get my physical copy.

Did you see that the book was specifically influenced by anime? I'd suggest watching Your Name if you haven't already.

Yumi book is maybe the best looking of the three so far? Beautiful cover and artwork from flipping through, I adore the manga/anime series he supposedly took heavy inspiration was so I've been hyped on this one particularly for a while.

Oh, and I continue to love these adorable pins, character is pretty obvious considering the book ( Shallan)

Just got my Frugal Wizard hardcover so im finally reading it. I absolutely love the idea, what a great mystery. I’m never “excited” when I see the amnesiac angle (or portal fantasy for that matter) but it’s all working perfectly. Reminds me of the fantastic and under-appreciated Heroes Die, except not grimdark as all fuck

Been considering starting a Brandon Sanderson series for a while and might do it beginning next year in winter months. For someone who mostly reads horror and really never dabbled much into fantasy (but did read and LOVE the Dark Tower) which series do you think would be the easiest to be introduced to Sanderson?

    Stormlight Archive or Mistborn?

    yeah good okay Prestigious

Others can definitely give better answers but I'd go with Mistborn. It's how I started then jumped into Stormlight next.

I think everyone should start with Mistborn, no matter the entry point. You'll know by the end of book one if you like his style, and then by the end of the trilogy if you want to invest more time in this ever growing/complicated universe of worlds.

(The Mistborn paperback boxset is a Prime Day Deal, if you need a cheap pick-up.)

Good to know thanks to you both!

I also think it is way less intimidating when book 1 of Mistborn is in the 500 page range vs. the monster of The Way of Kings lol

That's the best plan of action for sure. Also, that Mistborn trilogy has some really phenomenal moments, so if you find that you do like Sanderson, you'll be in for a treat.

Frugal Wizard was great. I went in with some reservations, it being non-cosmere and it definitely seemed like he was going to be doing his "funny" thing. But I loved it. It still had a cheesy as hell joking vibe, but sometimes he pulls it off, and for the most part it worked, the exception that springs to mind is the 5 star thing, that was a little too cringe.

I also ended up loving the story in the margins, which at first I didn't even realize was a consecutive story, but it was an excellent little addition.

Once again, these hardcovers are beautiful.

I've started Way of Kings because I have it, but haven't read anything else of Sanderson. Will I explode?

I did Way of Kings first, and instantly fell in love, the opening scene is still one of my favorites, and I think some of that had to do with me having no expectations for Sanderson. I still agree with everyone else that Mistborn is better to read first, but I can't say I didn't love diving straight into Way of Kings

Also at that time I'd read like ASOIAF but that was about it as far as fantasy. (And Dark Tower, obviously)

Way of Kings is incredible and was my first non-WoT Sanderson, so it’s not a bad first book at all for diving in.

Why is the consensus to read mistborn first? Isn’t there barely a connection between the two.

It has nothing to do with how they're connected, Mistborn is just a complete trilogy that you can finish and get a good feel for Sanderson, as apposed to 4, 1,000+ page books out of a planned 10.

It works as a standalone, so if you don’t like his style you have an easy exit point. It’s also just really damn good (and the next two in the trilogy are better), so if you love it, the universe explodes.
