Erase Me was initially supposed to be done with BMTH so it makes sense

 

Lyrics are mid but sonically strong, (massive chorus) I’ve really enjoyed the new direction. UO have always mixed their unique experimental edge with pop sensibilities. They found their footing again and looking forward to whenever they drop this record.

I think it’s fucking cool how pre-split era UO informed BMTH’s pop leanings but then this reversed when UO came back from hiatus. Both bands have put out some genre *defyning* stuff in their career. Would love to see Underoath in a stadium with BMTH.

 

The chorus is great, the verses are mid, the bridge is cool so I'm just gonna round that up to "pretty good". I liked Let Go a lot more but this'll probably do well with the Octane crowd.

 

This song is very lame imo. I think they are missing some of their secret sauce by not working with a producer bringing objective influence.

 

My exact thoughts

 

I miss this bands glory days. Everything from Safety to Disambiguation was so good.

 

Voyuerist is great tho

 

Underoath always felt like they were pushing the limits in heavy music and kinda leading the way, at least for their time.

at the time of DTGL, LITSOS, and disambiguation, they definitely felt like they were lifting the entire genre and redefining the game. Even the full album play throughs and digital ghost were redefining how you could present your music in COVID times.

The Ronnie Radke tour and the shitty way they handled James and some of the of the dumb shit Aaron has said just makes me feel like they seem to have lost the plot, or at least lost what was special about them.

 

Lifeline is solid. No more no less. Hoping they've got more up their sleeves on the album because both songs are a step down from Voyeurist's singles run so far. Just something about them that feels been there done that and we know they can do so much better.

 

the performance would be cool but the set list would be eye roll after eye roll after eye roll

I think they’re caught in this weird space where they don’t really have any competition anymore and they’re probably having a hard time deciding who they’re writing for. The older crowd are impossible to please and just show up for the first 2 records, newer metalcore doesn’t really sound like UO at all, and radio rock is a wasteland. Can’t blame em for trying different things and you think those circumstances would be amenable to real experimentation but who knows where their minds are at musically. Tough waters to navigate when you’ve gotta support the families.

 

Voyeurist is a nice sweet spot they hit upon I think, if they kept it around there while tweaking it a bit and throwing some things in that'd be cool. As much as I would love another Disambiguation lol

 

i don't really find this one to be as mainstream as everyone is saying, it's certainly much more moody and genuine than a song like "Rapture"

i'm curious to see where they go with the rest of the record.

 

That and we've heard directly from them that they aren't necessarily invested in the genre they initially were known for (paraphrasing).

I just hope they have some curveballs or more experimental stuff awaiting us. No Frame and Pneumonia remain my favorite post hiatus songs.

 

Those two songs are also my favorites. Saw uo a bunch during the erase me era and No Frame is by far my favorite post hiatus live song. Tim living his EDM dj dreams during that song,

 

Saw the band tonight and was really pleased with the set list, turns out they can indeed still freshen things up a bit. Still super heavy on the first 2 records unfortunately but I got 4 (!!) songs I haven’t seen live before and 2 delicious (relatively) deeper cuts. Also probably the first time since the DTGL era I didn’t see them close with WOTW, they played it much sooner. Venue had a hard cut off of an hour so no encore.

Have we noticed if Underoath and The Ghost Inside are switching the headliner spots on this tour?

From footage I'm seeing, it still feels weird seeing them as a 5 piece, like there's suddenly much more space on stage... and Tim is now running a marathon all across it while playing his parts lol

 

My bad on the botched title lol either way, new experience!

 

thought the latter was incredible. Crowd energy was lower during the new songs but myself and a neighbor went nuts. That song (should have) has set staple all over it.

 

I won a meet and greet before the New Orleans show next week, the email they sent still has James in the promo picture…

 

That makes sense - it seems like the James situation wasn’t something planned ahead.

 

Show was great, Better Lovers is a crazy good live act.

Don’t understand who enjoys We Came As Romans, they are terrible. Both guitarist seemed like they didn’t wanna be there.

Underoath killed it, both the new songs sound great live. About half the crowd left before The Ghost Inside came on to close it…

 

Underoath was fantastic tonight.

Better Lovers is amazing as well
