I ran to the grocery store quick and in the parking lot was a guy playing maybe an accordion or something similar trying to play for tips. When I came out of the store two cop cars were there and forcing him to stop and leave. Everything is awful.

yeah, unfortunately some places it’s very strictly enforced. You definitely are taking a risk if you busk in front of a major corporate business. I try to find areas that have a public little park / bench area, or if I’m in the city, only busk near a business that looks locally operated, in a neighborhood that already constantly has noise and street buskers. Busking in front of a cafe by 930 club (a popular music venue in DC) was fine and cop cars drove by and no one hassled me.

Or like, in Baltimore there’s this pier that has a lot of through pedestrian traffic that passes by it, but isn’t near a road or an entrance to any local establishment, and I wouldn’t be in the way because very few people actually walk down the pier.

But as a street performing musician you really have to be strategic about finding places where cops won’t fuck with you

Public street festivals like farmers markets are usually a pretty good bet. There’s already so much noise and commotion that no local businesses can really complain.

Station North Artwalk is tonight in Baltimore and I’m def considering going up there to busk
